November the 3rd...

obviously I was kidding :P

It probably would be sweet for skiing, I love tele stuff so throwing my 70-200 on one would be awesome.

Same. And it's what 1/2 the cost?

Yeah I don't get the whining about Crops. All of your t2i's, 7d's, 60d's and t3i's crop.

The Epic has the same crops too...

yeah my bad spaced that for a second...been editing for to long... time to start shooting again soon.

oh wait read that wrong...yup long day...thought i put 5d instead of 7d...i can't even remember when i'm losing my mind...

true story...I've already planned about 90 things I want to do with it in my head. What I can actually afford and make happen is another story. I do have a good week of filming planned in Breck/Summit in December already though.

I'm not sure if I'll be up late enough to share it but I'd watch this guys twitter. He got the first Scarlet and is dropping some footage soon to play with. I know this isn't for everyone. For those considering it, or that just wanted to play with some RED footage this is getting you to that. Notice unless your running a beasting computer you'll probably have to lower the RES to 1/4 or 1/8 to fully watch it at full speed.

Here is a screen shot of a shot inside RedCine-X

If you want to play with the footage, the files are .r3d's you'll have to download RedCine-X off RED.com here:
https://www.red.com/support/all/downloads

Scroll down and 3 blocks down on the left side you'll have REDCINE-X and choose your platform.

Here is a good tutorial to kind of teach you the workflow and way the program works:

Here is where you should beable to get the footage from.

I'm currently on page 21, no footage yet. You can also follow his twitter and he may put it up there:
https://twitter.com/#!/tonaci

I'll come back and share the DL link if/when I see it. But in case I crash and it's not up just pointing you in the general direction

I did. I like Phillip and usually his opinion. I think the point he's trying to make is the same thats been stated everywhere. It isn't an Epic. I'm not sure why he's as upset about the power as he is. Getting a camera like that is an investment. It uses alot of power. There is alot more going on in this camera and it has higher data rates than a GH2.... Which he rightly loves. But it's a different game.

After reading more of this stuff, it confirmed some feelings i was having about the scarlet. I think if i owned one and filmed skiing, i would just shoot 3k 48fps at all times, maybe 4k 24fps for some stuff but the 2k 60 is almost pointless and the crop is a little ridiculous for normal SLR lenses. With the scarlet, you needs like 3-4 different sets of lenses for each crop. although, it would be interesting to try out some 2/3 lenses in 2k/60. But, like i said, 2x crop for 3k 48fps is pretty solid. But, 3K/4K is pretty worthless unless you're shooting to print on film, even tho full 1080 looks pretty decent printed to film. I think the scarlet would be a nice B cam to a fleet of epics, but stand alone it has alot of limitations. Im happy i cant afford a camera at the price right now and very happy with the camera i have now too. 1080p60/1080p24 is gonna be fine for me for awhile i think.

The only problem I have with his blog is that the camera doesn't actually get blocky and grainy as you get lower. He also said the sensor is 3 and a 1/2 years old. Which is false. It was released in 2010 for the R1. His knowledge is limited in some areas.

Not to mention when he bought his Epic M it was clearly stated it was a beta cam. An early adopters option to getting a pre-production camera essentially. RED fixes alot of stuff for free cheap. Had he consulted RED the issues would've been fixed. Instead he goes to his blog and says thats whats wrong and will be wrong.

kinda seems like he doesn't really have a good idea of what he is doing. shots kinda look like shit color wise and his angles are pretty meh as well.

oh well, not the first time i've seen that kind of person with a RED

Tonaci actually does good work. He's in the middle of shooting a feature film. He's shooting some randoms in the middle of shooting a film between here and Vietnam if I read that right. He just did some pick up shots to share!
