November the 3rd...

it's not at 3p.m.

It's at 6 PST for announcement

and 7 PST for ordering

But Nov 3rd does have a number and he said in contrast to Canon, 3 is better than 2.

that was referring to the canon release, should have said that...

another good quote from reduser

Haha clever bunch.

While I'll get a RED, I'm not a fan of the knocking of the Canon. While it will probably be inferior to the RED, its still going to be the choice of many, and probably most, why?

Manufacturing and numbers. More people will beable to get there hands on it and faster.

I'd be more exited if there was something coming out under 3 grand, but still I'm fucking stoked

okay, rising sun.. sorry

after reading this thread, not really knowing shit unless its about my dslr that i use consistently, i feel like you are contributing nothing to this thread. you are just throwing out shit that you may "think" will be announced, but seriously man. look whos talking. evan, landis and jeff are much more knowledgeable than you are, or that you think you are. you are contributing nothing but shit that doesn't even matter at this point. #rant

done.

the c300 is official!

quote this to show off the new canon PL primes, mmmm. could be pretty sweet lenses!

People are planning on buying a camera that they have never shot with or even seen footage or specs from yet? give me a break.

I like the body design except for that shitty looking viewfinder. It looks identical to the ones found on $100 handycams...

Otherwise, stoked! Those lenses look like Canon CP2s...

This was WAY overhyped. Really nothing revolutionary. But people will probably still be scooping these up left and right come January.

I was hoping it would be closer to the fs100 price point just so I could pick up a used fs100 while everyone flocks to this overpriced F3.

again, I'm not trusting any specs until engadget posts them. DVinfo and Dan Carr (who just copy pasted DVinfo's article into his blog) don't have any inside edge on this. If they did, engadget would have seen it

Not at all. True professionals will buy this camera and make money with it. Irrelevant? Nope. Everyone is just mad because they can't buy a $15,000 camera for $4,000... Like these camera companies owe everyone an amazing camera at a cheap price point.

In the grand scheme of things, who are they after? People that can't afford to shoot RED?

That's more accesible now than ever, and probably even more so after tonight.

This is just speculation, but I don't see 1080 being a worthwhile resolution for much longer. I realize that there's things I don't know about this camera, but to me, the price tag combined with the limited frame rates and resolution, when compared to cameras like the F3, FS100, and AF100 to me makes this camera seem pretty unnecessary.

If you don't think that's true, I'd love to hear your take on it.

I think one big advantage of the new c300 is the codec and the new cine lenses. The actual camera itself is cool and have some okay features (nothing new, lots of old stuff) but the actual codec is 422 10 bit like the f3 and then the new cine lenses are pretty sweet too.

is it 8? bunch of nerds on dvxuser kept flipping out saying it was 10bit. if its 8bit then meh, f3 is 10bit.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not THAT guy who complains that he can't get a RED Scarlet for $2k.

My criticism is that Canon hyped this up for a month, claiming it was a game changer. It's not far off from an F3, and it certainly isn't anything we haven't already seen. Do I feel entitled to some mind blowing product? Not at all. Is it a nice camera? Definitely. I'm sure it will have a solid presence in the industry. I'm just saying that the product they revealed is inconsistent with their hype. I'm sure it's great and all, but it's far from a "game changer."

inb4 some giant elephant in the room gets dropped and we all have to take back what we said ;)

To keep it simple, there will be things about this camera that people will love, so they'll buy it. If it produces nice images, they'll buy it. It may seem irrelevant to you, but it's completely relevant to many others. Also, 1080p still more than acceptable. For how long? who knows.

Not everyone strives to shoot on a RED for everything, whether it's a one or an epic. Just because budget allows, it doesn't mean it's the right camera for every job. RED cameras aren't the holy grail or the end all be all. Unfortunately, too many people think that.

RED has this nasty hold on a lot of people, God of all things camera.
