Just curious around here will be tuning in between Canon and RED. And who has there checkbooks ready?

It's a big day! I can't wait.
 
I'm stoked to see what canon brings to the table. It's codec is supposed to be hella legit. And of course, the new RED system will be awesome
 
Not so much getting my checkbook ready as prepared to save every dollar I acquire over the next year.

but yeah, pretty excited for the announcements.
 
I couldn't possibly justify spending around $10k for a camera while I'm in college, so at the very most I'll tune in with passive curiosity.
 
Way to make a thread to show off that you have a bunch of money and that you're going to buy 30k in camera equipment. Obviously NO ONE else that visits this forum regularly is going to be able to afford what you can afford jeff.

Or I was just trying to create a discussion because of how excited I am? Much like others have with posts about the 1DX, FS100's and other cameras.

Everybody does! I fully intend to share .r3d files for everyone to mess around with and allow people to play with it if they're around the mountain when I am, or in Colorado if I have free time.

Unless either of them release something at a similar price point of the fs100/af100 (highly unlikely) then I have no interest in purchasing. Still pretty excited for later today
 
yeah, i think canon's release will be about 10k, and the scarlet fixed (Jeff, are they still dropping one? I haven't followed up on the RED stuff in a while) will be around 6-7,5k (these are just my guesses...)

their PL mount lenses also say they will be compatible with scarlet. so two cameras it looks like.
 
well the canon event doesn't 4pm PST and the red event is two hours after that, so we have some time to speculate
 
I'm praying for a more weather sealed, less megapixel 5d mkii with better af and better burst and a better video modes. I know it wont happen, but fuck it, thats what I want

They have also made everything on the site incompatible with anything else. Check marks have been removed for Epic, Scarlet and R1.

My personal guess, Cameras are the same, Fixed is maybe around 7K, Interchangeable 6K...and that there will be Canon and PL mounts available that are maybe not titanium for the interchangeable. Mini primes still exist in my mind too.

Remember everyone, if you plan on buying one, plan accordingly you might beable to get one for 6-7K but the battery on these guys' lasts an hour. If you use the side handle battery. And that is while shooting. Also the amount of HD's and media you'll need will increase greatly. Although you can get 18 minutes shooting full 3K 12:1 RedCode on a 16GB CF card.

I bought a 128 and 256 GB SSD card instead. A card reader is $250. Compared to P2 media it's still cheaper though.

For power I'm going with a few redvolt's and these guys:

If your looking for the least inexpensive kit, IF THEY RELEASED THE FIXED LENS, thats the way to go. I'd still book 9-10K to shoot it well though.

I'm thinking it will be two cameras: one with HD-SDI (like the 100 and 105, 300 and 305's) and one, cheaper model. I think the cheaper will have the EF mount, while the more expensive will have the choice between PL and EF.

Stoked to see the cine lenses they might be releasing.
 
unless its an ef lens, with usm/is that is declicked (with aperture ring, good luck) thats under 1000 bucks, its gonna pointless.
 
Sorry should've laid it out better.

Basically I think RED will release 2-3 cameras.

My take is the Fixed Lens will be around 7-8K for a decent shooting kit. Maybe 64GB SSD and 2-4 batteries. I still think there will be a fixed lens Scarlet. Still 2/3 3K.

I think there will be a 2/3 3K interchangeable as well. Maybe 1500-2000 less in price. I think this camera will release with a set of mini-primes 6,8,16, 25, 50 and 70mm. I also think they'll make a less expensive version of the mount's to be able to use a EF or PL lens mount.

There may be another one a S35 as well closer to the 12K for a body range...maybe more with 4K...

I'm not sure. I think there will be 3 cameras announced 2 for order and shipping.

They said at one point they wouldn't announce the Scarlet until it was ready to ship. I'm hoping this is the case.

I personally would like to pick up a fixed and interchangeable. At this point I'll likely just get an interchangeable if there is a Canon or PL mount available now or shortly after release.
 
To me Canon's sounds like an F3...in that case, who cares, except it's at a lower price range. What would be interesting to see is what it's DR is. The F3 costs 5 grand to unlock S-Log...Put that on top of an already 20K price tag for an HD camera.

Both awesome. But price on those will be totally obsolete in my mind in about 7 hours.
 
regardless, I don't think I'll be picking any of these up unless something INCREDIBLE pops up at a ~5k price range, which won't happen
 
I doubt for a full kit. You might be able to get a body... the Scarlet Interchangeable's price was 2750 prior to HDRX. So then 3750...and maybe another 1,000-1500 on top of that.

haha calm down. It's a guess based on the last specs/price known. If you do the math...3750 plus 1500 is over 5K though...

It will probably be more, but the last price we heard on the interchangeable body was around 3750-4750.

 
Pretty much my situation right now, even 5k is pushing my limit knowing the amount of extras I would have to buy. Been saving up for a long time, but don't necesarilly need anything that good at the moment

wow...it's like everything is about to change for some people haha. I read something along the lines of...Shallow DOF is pro, if Scalet is 2/3 it's a waste, it won't be pro. You can only be pro with S35.

Saw that on DVXuser this a.m. trying to track it down while rendering.
