A draft agreement leaked Wednesday shows the Obama administration is pushing a secretive trade agreement that could vastly expand corporate power and directly contradict a 2008 campaign promise by President Obama. A U.S. proposal for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact between the United States and eight Pacific nations would allow foreign corporations operating in the U.S. to appeal key regulations to an international tribunal. The body would have the power to override U.S. law and issue penalties for failure to comply with its ruling. We speak to Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch, a fair trade group that posted the leaked documents on its website. "This isn’t just a bad trade agreement," Wallach says. "This is a 'one-percenter' power tool that could rip up our basic needs and rights.
 
Pretty fucked up.... But can't say I'm surprised.. the govt has been doing and of wacky shit lately like this.. FBI using drones for surveillance in the US, and that whole NSA snooping thing. Now business.. next is what?

Well that's exactly what's happening in the US, did you know you can be indefinitely detained if you're considered and "interior terrorist (aka against the democrats and republicans which is pretty much the same damn thing)"?

So messed up but at the same time I'm not really bothered. In 50 years our world is gonna look so different. We're living at the end of an era, be prepared for some major changes in the US in the next 10-20 years.
 
the "era" i think you're referencing ended with the september 11th attacks. We're in a new era and to say you're not really bothered only as it's beginning is something you should reflect on as a citizen of the United States.

I think you're right in that we should be prepared for some major changes. Subjecting ourselves to the whim of corporate interests should not be something we even consider.
 
The worlds changing again. I think it happens at least once in peoples lives, i think the us getting taken over by (insert county here) is almost inevitable.
 
I would say this era was started with the discovery of the new world...

And as a citizen of the United States I've decided to get the fuck out of that country. It is so messed up that I could only stand to be back for three months before I had to leave again.

I obviously don't know what the future will look like, but I would not be surprised if within the next 10 years we have militant rebellions in the United States. Not saying it's what I want, but there is no way I could live in the USA right now for more than 6 monthsish. The general consciousness in America right now just brings me down. So many better places around the world with more people on my wavelength.
