hey guys,
ill be moving out to SLC in jul/aug and i dont know anybody. im a transferring sophomore from fort lewis in colorado hoping to study photography at the U. ive had a place with friends the past couple years and experience tells me that i want a house with at least 3 other guys.
i need a garage, because of my stupid subaru.need a closet, my room this year doesn't have one, and it sucks.i like to partyi also am a fan of the pot, nuff said.somewhere close to campus so i can bike, because more often then not, my stupid car isn't running. oh, i have a fixie, im NOT A HIPSTER, but i do like my clothing, shoes, ect.
im really easy to get along with, i pay bills on time, and i dont break shit. that being said i am hoping someone will have an opening with me in mind. im also open to the idea of filling a house full of transfer kids, since it seems 35% of neewschoolers is gonna be out there next year.

If you don't know anyone the dorms is a pretty good place to meet people and they are super nice at the U. Also, unless your suby is a convertible with no top I wouldn't worry too much about a garage because those are not super common in salt lake college budget houses. At least not ones that fit all the room mates whips.

i did the whole dorm thing in boarding schools. not doing it again. ever. way to expensive and im not really good at following RA's instructions.
i NEED a garage because im always working on it. i should have clarified; its not a beater, but rather nice. i made the mistake of getting a house this year without one and regret it. now im working on my car in gutter, which kinda totally sucks. im not saying i need the garage all the time, im happy to share it with everyone, i just dont want to be swapping turbos on the street.

You're gonna have a hard time, like vinny said, finding a place with a garage, its tough.

Maybe if i have a room in my house you could move in but i have no idea

If you're set on a garage, that is going to have to be your main criteria. I wanted one to work on my motorcycle, and recently moved to a new place. It took a lot of looking and is a challenge, but just search the shit out of the KSL.com classifieds for open rooms in houses with garages. If you can get 4 people together that helps because it is a lot easier to find a good deal on a empty house with a garage than a decent one with just an open room.

bump. its obviously still really early but im just trying to get the word out im looking. my lease here expires end of july so ill be needing a house in august.

i have lots of posters, a couch. maybe 3 couches, depending on what my roommate does in august. a lot more posters. tools, a bunch plates/cups/ect. a couple really nice outdoor chairs and bench. ...so yeah.

oh! and i've thought about it and i dont need a garage all that bad if there not common.

so garage is no longer a requirement

too bad you're going to the U for photography. Salt lake community college has a better photography program than the U, and that ain't sayin much.

We might need a 4th person for our place at foothill apartments. I think most everyone will vouch that foothill is legit if your interested. You would be sharing a room though.

ill see when i get there. i doubt ill do just photography. probably some broader art major that includes photography, assuming they have something like that. i have a shit ton of upper devision business credit already so i wanna continue in a 4 year school. i have no idea at this point but i might do a double/some sort of business minor.

plus college is a ton of fun.

stewie, elaborate on this sharing a bedroom stuff. i think i might have stayed in those over spring break with a buddy on our way out to cali.

Well we have the a 2 bedroom place, 1100 square feet. We need to have at least 3 people to afford living there so 2 of the roommates are going to have to share a bedroom. One guy just backed out so we currently only have me and my friend.

if we end up not filling our 5th room then you may be able to get in there.. but we wont know for a month or two.. also its on 3300 so its a bit of a bike

Don't know how you'd feel about living with girls but my roommate and I have a third room opening up in our house this summer. We're in the avenues, it's about 5 minutes to the U.

I lived there last year, they're nice apartments. Kind of expensive, though I guess if you're splitting it 4 ways it isnt bad. Just don't ever be late on rent or they'll fuck you.

Thats good to know because some places are like meh and others hold a gun to your head.

They look super nice. Rent is going to be $320 unless we get a 4th person which is pretty average.

I *think* - don't quote me on this, because it's been almost a year since I was living there - but I think every time you're late on rent they raise your rent a fairly significant amount for the rest of your lease, in addition to charging you a late fee for that month (I want to say the late fee is 90 dollars, but again, I'm not sure about that at all). I did like their pools though, and that little gym. I miss the little gym, there were only ever like one or two other people in there. Now I have to go to the U to workout and it feels like much more of a hassle. It was also nice being right off the highway, getting up to the mountains was really easy.

raise the rent? I'll make sure and read the lease thoroughly. Not that im planning on being late. Mini gyms are sick. I use to live in a pretty large apartment complex and no one ever uses them.

Like I said, I might be wrong. I'd check my old lease for you but I have no idea where it is, if I even still have it.

But, so long as you pay before the 3rd, you don't have to worry about it.

How is the U at the gym? Does it get pretty crowded?

And to OP if you need something temporary to live in this summer while you're looking for a place, hit me up, or in the fall as well, however long you need two stay really. Lease is 1 year and you can bail at anytime as long as you find someone else to take over the lease for you, they add ammendums to the original lease. Pretty legit set up, you gotta pull your wait though, we pay a sum of money to the leaseholder, not individual, if you don't come through it fucks me. Shared living, bath, kitchen, own room. Cool, lil basement apartment. Address is 1240 e 252 s.

You mean the gym at the U? Haha. It's not too bad. Pretty big, so even when there are lots of people there you can always have your space. There are tennis and basketball courts, a track upstairs, random dance studios, a weight room downstairs and a weight training area upstairs, a big cardio area with treadmills/bikes/etc right when you walk up the stairs, and all that stuff. It does feel hot in the summer, at least to me anyway. Parking can also be a PITA, especially if you don't have a pass that allows you to park in the stadium lot.

I don't think overcrowding is really an issue though. For example, I've never wanted to use a treadmill and not been able to hop right on one.

yeah i feel like there are so many other things you can do around salt lake for exercise that the gym doesnt really get all that crowded

Bump. That account was banned because elgato sucks so please don't message it. I'll be making a few trips out to slc this summer.

Mobile ns sucks. anyway I'll be out there a couple times this summer. Making my first trip in 3 weeks I think. Im hoping to check out a few houses then/meet some of you.

Yeah definitely. I'd rather go tool around in the foothills than go to the gym.

Speaking of the U's gym, I left my cell phone in that little weight room on the left when you first walk in tonight. It's a Droid in a black hard case. I left a few minutes before they closed, and by the time I got home and realized I didn't have it, it was too late to go back. Hopefully it'll still be there in the morning, but if anyone happens to see it before I can get back there, please grab it for me and I'll be forever grateful!

Actually never mind, just got it back. Someone turned it in to the front desk/lost and found a few minutes before I got to the gym. Thank you U of U people for being solid and not just stealing it. Thank you thank you thank you. It's not even 7 am and my day has been made.

I hate when I do shit like that, it stresses me out beyond belief.
