Northeast Covid Update help?

I’m trying to decipher all of the terminology during these crazy times. I live in a red state CT (unfortunately) but I am a weekend warrior.

Especially this year because most sports are shut down and my kids are young so I figured I would really teach them how to ski this year.

I bought the IKON pass for the whole family $2600 bones, btw my wife and I are both teachers = broke.. hahahah

Anyway I planned a few long weekends and trying to pull off the weekend warrior this season. The new safety measure is if traveling from red state i have to quarantine for 14days?

**I made this a long story but basically how do you think this season will play out with out of staters?

I have also considered moving to VT if my wife and I become virtual teachers due to covid for a month or two.

Pretty sure nobody is gonna make you quarantine to go to a ski resort in a different state.

And that right there is exactly the reason Mt. Washington got shut down at the end of last season

Does anyone know about this shit i'm hearing about instances where police are involved in random "check ins" to people who are involved in these types of quarantines? I know for the most part it's probably just honor code, but anyone have more official knowledge?

Hmmmmmm that’s really tricky. My experience going to VT and NH this summer was they give you a health questionnaire to fill out if you stay at a hotel or sth. it looks like VT has an option to quarantine before coming, which doesn’t sound like an option for you?

I’m in NY so I feel you...nobody wants our diseased bodies in their state...fair imo

ETA: my plan!!! I’m going to quarantine here and go up for Thanksgiving. And in January I’m planning to move up to Vermont for a few weeks to stay with family, quarantining beforehand in NY both times. I’m very lucky to be allowed/forced to work from home for the foreseeable future so quarantine is my whole life ☠️

I hope it works out! I think the hardest part for me will be the timing in getting a COVID test. I need one for VT and I’ve heard there are bad delays.

Technically VT says you have to but they aren't enforcing it. It's really just up to your integrity to follow however I'd expect most folks won't follow this. They aren't already. Honestly I'd be surprised if VT continues these rules come winter cuz their tourism industry is gonna suffer from all the people not going by following the rules.

Yep.

Probably check with each individual resort to see what their requirements are and if you need a reservation or not.

If you think CT is a red state you're a complete Dipshit. Please don't come to NH, go to Vermont with all the New York and Jersey trash.

Now that's the attitude I expect from the Northeast Kingdom!

Absolutely! The whole season is in jeopardy! I will be quarantined for most of season since teaching virtually for At least until the new year.

Nope your question is definitely legitimate and on many minds for this winter

Maybe he thought you meant...politically red?

Lol y'all act like people would rather go to NH ?

Shouldn't you not travel to Vermont if you're in a red state? I understand skiing is fun and fulfills the fantasies of our mind, but we should take some personal responsibility for the possible spread of the virus and not travel across state borders for vacation. I know for a fact there are some great hills in connecticut that will be just as good for your kids to learn to ski at.

Not really but it is closer for most people in CT. By all means go to VT just don’t get Washington shut down again

You can put as many guidelines in place as you wish, but they do no good when there is no consequence and no one follows them. Until that changes, weekend warriors will flock.

I'm from CT as well; Northwest area. What town you from boss?

I bought my season's pass for Killington back in June.

I'm planning to live at my buddy's place in Vermont for the entirety of January, for skiing purposes. He's from Woodstock (15 mins from Killy)

I'm in college, so weekend trips are still feasible, since I have no classes on friday, and monday's are pretty easy.

I still plan on making weekend trips, but prolly not as often. I was planning on taking the train up on friday morning, and be back monday afternoon. I could comfortably do classes on the train since I have two back to back lectures that are about 2 hours total. Unfortunately any service lines north of Hartford are temporarily closed, so it seems driving is my only option.

I'm not too worried about travel restrictions. I'm being very careful with covid, and it seems most resorts will have no plan in place to really know where you're coming from.

Hey! I’m from New Haven area. A family member has a house at Stratton my family and I can stay at but plan on skiing K and the Bush. Up for day trips too. My wife and I are both teachers and it looks like we’ll all be virtual including my kids. Woodstock’s a fun little town. I hope this season works out!!

Nice, I'm out in the sticks in Litchfield haha. This season will be fine- I'll be skiing one way or another.

It’s getting scarier by the week. May just rent my buddies house in VT for a month or two. Whole family is quarantined anyway

Anyone read the fine print on the Ikon pass? I heard a few people saying they would wait out skiing until after Thanksgiving to see what happens with covid. Is it true if you use it you lose your chance on a refund?

They're back to blowing snow, hopefully it'll be soon.

Any resorts opening soon? I’m getting real horny to ski and Sunday River isn’t blowing snow yet.

Yes. Well you lose the ability to roll it over to next year however if resorts close for x amount of days, you'll still be entitled to that portion of a refund if it happens. They added the ability to roll the cost of your pass to next year if you don't use it.

Welp...definitely should’ve seen this one coming but with the infection rates the way they are I’ll be staying home this Thanksgiving after all. Who else is in the “staying out of Vermont” club?

I think to summarize the current conditions, stay in your own state. As much as I want to go to VT and ME I’m in NH and don’t want to quarantine 14 days for one day of skiing, so I’m staying in NH. Pretty simple, don’t be the asshole that ruins things for everyone else.

My life is a quarantine! I’m going skiing and not stepping foot inside any restaurant, lodge etc.

I can imagine VT locals getting real fired up about Mass ppl coming up and disregarding any quarantine related rules.

I can imagine Mass locals getting real fired up about their ski season, saying NO WAY they're not gonna hit up mt snow this year due to covid.

I'm gonna get fired up about mass people coming to Maine, I don't need my season to get ruined by people who aren't even supposed to be here

Covid knows no boarders , I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. And they need mass people to make the money
