Non- mainstream hard rock and metal.

what you got? Do not post any mainstream metal or garbage hardcore/screamo shit in here.

Hipster much?

Though I wouldn't call Ghost "non-mainstream" cause they used to play Year Zero A LOT on bandit rock here in Sweden. Though it may be cuz Ghost are from Sweden... Anyhow I'm not really in to these bands where they sing "hail satan", "Come together for Lucifer’s son" etc... Me as a Lavey Satanist doesn't have that view of Satan.

Since you asked for a Non-mainstream band I can suggest Opeth, the softer albums are Damnation, Heritage and Pale Communion. Pale Communion should be released this fall?, though the album has leaked on youtube already. You can listen to the earlier albums like Still Life, (wich is a masterpiece) and Blackwater Park. They are my favourite albums of Opeth.

The Devil's Orchard-Heritage

The Moor-Still Life (might be a bit to heavy for you, but listen through it before you judge)

that kinda just sounds like post punk to me. Not sure Id call it hard rock or metal.

That is definitely not punk...

Ive seen Opeth live 5 times now. I listen to mostly true black metal, Ghost is easier for people to get into rather than my normal Burzum or Enslaved.

Chiodos mainstream?

Drop Dead, Gorgeous mainstream?

August burns red mainstream?

We Came as Romans mainstream?

Hmm...

Those are all pretty mainstream, and pretty awful to boot.

And before they turned into Metallica's replacement:

Ive seen trivium live 2 times and both times I wished I could dig out my ear drums. Thank god they were just opening acts.

Were Opeth good live?

What's your view of their newest albums? Personally I think they're kinda o.k, but I really hope they get back to death metal again.

mikael akerfeldt's voice is shot, too many years of growls so he cant even do death metal vocals anymore. I dont mind their new stuff, if I want prog rock I will pop heritage in .

i have seen them through the progression to where they are today, the last show i saw (heritage album tour) was kind of shit but the 4 previous times were epic. I lost my shoe at the first show I saw of theirs when I was a young lad, and I was not even in the pit.

Opeth are not going backwards I am afraid, they are only going more progressive and forward. Still good, but not even close to what they were. If you have no listened to their earlier works, take a listen. Orchid is a fucking fantastic album and people seem to just start their opeth listening at still life or my arms your hearse.

I haven't really listened much on the earlier stuff like Orchid, My arms your hearse, or morningrise. I love still life, blackwater park and ghost reveries.I've listened through all of their albums many times, and there is actually only one song that I don't like, white cluster.

I think it is rad that they are doing something different and I agree that they are not going bakwards.

Mikael said in a interview that if they're going heavy again, it is going to be pure death metal. Im really stoked that they might go heavy again.

Åkerfeldt couldn't sing cuz it damaged his voice (sore throats and stuff afterwards). But he has worked on new techniques to prevent that. So hopefully he might be back.

People like OP piss me off. "Mainstream" Hard rock and Metal? Take this website as an example, the majority of people on it would say they do not listen to metal. Furthermore, ask them the difference between deathcore, death metal, thrash metal, and black metal and they'll say they sound the exact same. Part of the reason metal doesn't gain a bigger following is the shitty community that tears its own bands apart. It's okay to not like a band but doing it on the basis that they're too "mainstream" is retarded. Fuck you and your hipster bullshit OP/rant.

Also I don't think OP knows how big of a difference there is between hardcore and screamo...

I am glad you enjoy my thread. The whole "they wont understand" thing is true but not mean I should not attempt to share and talk about it because there could be fans of metal already on NS'ers or people who want to get into metal but do not know where to get started. I should not hold back just because no one knows about the genre on this site, that seems counter productive.

I do not care what you listen to if you enjoy it but the most irritating part of a casual metal fan is how they think they have found the "next best band" but in reality the band is just trying to sell records to poor souls who fall for it.

It is quite clear 95 percent of the ns'ers do not really understand what someone means by metal that is not really well known or in radio flow. A band that is on the radio is not a bad band by any stretch, I just want to give people other options other than the radio and what is feed to them via EA sports soundtracks.

I am ok with being a music snob a bit, if there was no music snobs pushing people out there to find new music and bands it would just be the same old shit, day in, day out.
