No snow on the locals in Vancouver? Pass refunds?

Season‘s been so bad that Cypress, Seymour, and Grouse have all closed until further notice…

Curious has anyone gotten a pass refund or deferral to next season?

Last I checked they were charging $67+tax for a day ticket at Cypress, with 1 run open... I figured they would atleast reduce day ticket prices if 95% of the mountain is closed…

Resorts cutting the cost of a ticket because most of the mountain is closed?

Resorts giving refunds?

You must be new to skiing OP

Not heard anything about refunds, however, I got a grouse pass and they emailed me yesterday giving me 2 free Revy passes and a other freebies/discounts as a way of saying sorry, plus the crew up there have been working hard af to make snow and they’ve got a few features out

grouse is technically open, there's a few features in the park. I was up today and had a fun time hiking the tube. Park crew been working hard lately with the little snow they have. I believe ticket prices have dropped for grouse.

I've never heard of any resorts giving refunds for closing early. I don't remember what grouse did last time they had to close early but maybe there will be a reduced price for next year's season pass (that happened to me when whis closed early for covid). I'd say there's a negligible (ie zero) chance they give refunds.

They usually have a minimum number of days which constitutes a "season" for "season pass" purposes. In the case of Cypress I believe that number is around 85. So they'll have to open up for some significant amount of time during the rest of the season to meet their obligation to pass holders.

Honestly I don't really care if it's one or two runs I just want to get out and ski some more now.

Also be prepared for the future of skiing to look like this. Some boom years with tons and tons of snow and probably more with little to none. One of the problems at Cypress it's not even been cold enough to blow snow for weeks. I know technology to blow snow at warmer temps is being developed so maybe they'll roll that out in a few years.

The last time I saw this was in like 2005? Snoqualmie was open for like maybe a total of 5 weeks and never got completely open. So they said everyone who bought a pass gets a pass for next year. Classy move, tbh. Now since then they’ve gotten smart and they issue a “100 day guarantee” where they pro rate a discount on the following year if they can’t hit that many days. I think that even costs extra now which is double scummy because they’ll run one double chair out of 37 lifts and count it.

I had a pass in 2005 when Grouse had no skiing for a good chunk of the season. If I recall correctly they basically told us the mountain was still open for us to use the rest of the amenities so tough luck about the skiing. They may have extended the pass so we could use it in the summer, but we certainly had to pay for our passes the following winter. My dad wound up buying us snowshoes and dragging us up the mountain to use them a bunch of weekends because he was committed to us getting our money's worth. I'm not sure what they did in the more recent crappy seasons like 2010 and 2015 because I'd stopped skiing Grouse by then.

It looks like both Cypress and Seymour now have minimum day pass protection that you can purchase ahead of time (for 76 and 60 days respectively):

How bad is the snowpack at Baker? Pretty close to the border. I have to spend a day in Seattle and one in Van for work somewhat soon. Forget about it and go elsewhere like Tahoe?

The whole PNW is pretty fucked. I heard from a friend that the summit at Whistler is ok but Baker is lower.

They have like a 40” base but we are not going to get any precip for at least at week and the temp is bumping above and below freezing like every day/night. Shit sandwich

Yeah. IDK how Inner BC resorts are 100% open I have them all favored on Open Snow and never see them forecasted to get over 10" over the next 10 days at all last couple of years but I guess when it doesn't get cold you don't need much.
