No smoking, no drinking, no tattoos

If there's one Christian value I respect and agree on them with, it's that the body is a temple. I'm well aware, as well as you all probably are as well, that many break their own rule. I myself am the occasional smot poker. But I agree with them that the body is sacred and shouldn't be abused--cigarettes, piercings or tattoos, turning your liver into a pickle, steroids, etc. I'm even against taking protein supplements, I think all muscle or level of fitness gained should be natural.

Am I the only one who feels the body needs to be respected? Lend me your thoughts.

protein is 100 percent natural.

yeah steroids are fucked, but once again you can also argue that they are natural.

alcohol is fine in moderation, cigs are obviously terrible for your lungs and i respect your decision to stay away from them.

piercings are not detrimental to your body unless they become infected....

tattoos are also not detrimental to your body unless they become infected....

Not saying I agree with the values, but I think "the body is a temple" means that you should leave it "the way God intended." So changing it in any way whether it physically harms you or not isn't good.

OP, I don't really get where you're coming from with the protein supplements thing. That's just a diet - it's still "natural."

Your recovery times are faster with supplements, in contrast with allowing them to heal in their natural time. Like I said, it's an odd way to look at it

My last post was rude. Sorry. I entirely understand where you are comimg from, but if youre going to pick and chose what is toxic because of god, i hope you dont eat sugar, shellfish, get eye surgery orany other type. I hope you dont drink water from the tap or use products packaged in plastics. How you respect yourself is up to you. You can have a beer and not beat your wife (although thats ok a lot of times according to the bible).

I smerk, I drenk, but id never get a tattoo. Unfortunately during a night of drinking with my best friend before he left for the marines we branded ourselves. Pretty fucking stupid imo

Sorry for double posting and i also didnt see Rachy's other response but tattoos are sick and are fine if they have a meaning to you and you dont get dumb shit tattoo'd all over your body

i pretty much feel that way, i mean a little alcohol every now and then isnt too bad, neither is maybe one or two tattoos that actually mean something, or a piercing or two isnt necessarily bad. but i dont respect people who treat their body/mind like shit, constantly drunk or high, cant be happy unless their on something, arent happy with themselves in a completely natural/ substance free state. use substances as an alternative to finding actual happiness/satisfaction, or letting it get in the way of goals and taking place of better things. thats pretty much my view on it.i wouldnt necessarily say i think the body is a temple, but more like you got one shot at life dont fuck it up by going through it in dumbed down state of mind, trying to find a false sense of happiness.

Your body belongs to you and if you're respecting mine then I have no reason not to respect yours (i.e. smoking is nasty and harmful, so don't do it near me).

I don't let mindless traditions, such as religion, change my thoughts about what kind of body looks good or how a body should be (it's obvious that well maintained bodies are much more attractive than bodies of neglected health), and honestly I find it extremely interesting to see people with tattoos, it's fun. I wouldn't hesitate to get a tattoo if I thought it was worthy of a place on my body (so it's likely I will get inked, the timing is just a question).

If you're going to follow a religion which states you must treat your body as a temple, then do so. I don't see any reason not to decorate a temple in a way which only enhances the temple's meaning and beauty.

Drinking? Don't overdo it.

BAHAHA you retarded 12-year old. Protein supplements are made of natural ingredients. If you are against anything "processed", you couldn't eat anything except fruits, sorghum, vegetables (all from your own garden without any pesticides, everything youll buy will be processed in some form) or meat (from animals you raise yourself only eating green from your land).

Noone forces you to do any of these things, but being against it implies your judging others for doing so. Especially putting steroids on the same level as tattos or an earring. That's ridicoulous.

Inb4 massive troll.

I don't really care what you do. None of my business what you put into your body.

That being said, ima go take some morning bong rips and Make some food.

I really don't care what other people do. Personally though I think tattoos are retarded and I keep my drinking to a very low level. Now when it comes to smoking I think cigarettes are disgusting but I'm all for smoking week all day every day.

Aside from girls getting butterflies tattoo'd on their backs and dudes getting chinese symbols on their biceps I think tattoo's can be pretty legit. If you're in to art, which most people who have tattoo's aren't - then sometimes tattoos are pretty sweet.

BAHAHA you retarded troll. I never said I was against anything processed, read the fucking OP dipshit. I never said anyone was forcing me to do these things, I was simply asking if anyone else had similar views on these kind of things

inb4 you learn to actually read

tattoos and body 'modification' have been around for thousands of years, i honestly don't understand why or when our society started to look at them negatively.

They go through trends like everything else. In the 90's it was seen as rebellious, 2000-2010 it was pretty douchey, now I feel like they're starting to make a comeback amongst hipsters of all sorts.

"I think all muscle or level of fitness gained should be natural." --> Since you classified protein supplements as unnatural, every other product made from natural ingredients but processed has to be unnatural for you as well. The idea behind it was to show you the inconsistency of your reasoning. Seems like you failed to see that, too.

NOW STOP TYPING you have no idea what you are talking about.

Should you be mentally disabled, I hereby apologize for responding. Your brotherfather should keep you from the internetz though.

I respect such christian values, but my problem is when they start forcing it down other people...

ps: protein is natural, and nothing wrong with abit of alcohol from time to time.

I think treating your body with respect is definitely important. Drinking and smoking kill you from the inside out, but they're really fun. I try to balance them out with enough exercise and good eating so I can splurge and not have my body turn to shit.

I like keeping my body healthy; So meditation, exercise and healthy eating are all important.

obviously fucking not if its a biblical concept, why do you ask stupid questions on ns you already know the answer to, are you 12?

you better add fast food to your list.

drinking in moderating is fine and shouldn't cause any long term damage since your body can handle it.

smoking cigarettes is just dumb any way I look at it.

i'm not against tattoos on other people, but i'll never get one myself.

First off, I'm 18.

Second off, that was in response to Caspa's post, are you dense? When are people in this thread going to learn to read? Jesus fucking christ.

Actually that's a solid point and I never looked at supplements like that. I'm going to ignore all that ad hominem bullshit at the end though.

True, sometimes it's difficult to abstain from that, if travelling for instance and it's impossible not to pack your own food.

Keeping your body healthy and respecting it isn't about what you put in it so much as how much you put in. Also, there is nothing in the bible that says you shouldn't drink. It does say you shouldn't get drunk, but Jesus was known for livening up the parties by turning water into wine. Tattoos are a personal choice that really have no greater effect on your temple than a scar. Regardless though, there are lots of ways to look after your body and pursue religion, but cutting things completely out of your life isn't my version of getting closer to god or keeping me healthy. I'd rather have the simple pleasures once in a while.
