No park at A-Bay this year?

My friend Yake, who is an absolute legend of a local at A-Bay, told me there will be no park at A Basin this year... Is this true?

As a former A Bay season pass holder, and current Ikon part of the problem-er, and potential future a-bay pass holder, this makes me more sick to my stomach than 6 warm and shooken pbrs on the palli lift before hitting the gullies. Of course a basin isnt known for the park, but they always had at least a tube or rail or 2 and have played a historic role in my early/ late season park progression and Im sure that of many others.

Alterra can smash their nuts on the ol DFD if they think they're gonna get away with this shiz.

What do you think, will there be a park at the basin the year?

That's such bullshit. I hope it's not true. Honestly abay park was always a little janky but in the best way. So much fun and one of the latest parks open.

its a damn shame.

also, a basin is still in limbo with the acquisition and the department of justice so currently not owned or reporting to alterra. my hope is that alterra actually invests more into the parks by that’s looking less likely if there is no park at all when they take over.

Lame. They had nothing set up at the end of the season this year too

I wasn't there closing day or anything, so maybe they took it down at the very end.. but I thought their late-season park was decent enough this year.

It was 2 tubes

And a rail? Which is a lot more than the 0 other lift served features anywhere else in the state in May (wp and breck, didn't actually go to breck but I assume they didn't have anything).

But still.. if there's no park at all next season that is fucked

Why would you willingly drive up Loveland pass in May to ski 2 lift serviced tubes when you can just build any feature you want with all of the terrain and resources in the pass?

Abays parks have been dogshit thr past few years compared to what they used to be, I wasn't joking earlier, give the Loveland pass homies the rails and that shit would Prime Area 51 in three or four hours

breck had some weird setup on peak 7 that was pretty fun 6 features i think

listen, im not gonna sit here and be gas lighted into thinking a basin ever had a quality park. they have always been the worst in the county. a51, woodward, breck are all at that world class caliber of creating features and proper construction of jumps. shit this year even frisco adventure park is going to have a more legit set up.

the only thing that a basin had with parks was being first and last open with pretty decent features. but they could never build a jump and certainly were never even close to the big dawgs in the county. no one went to have a park day there mid season unless all you had was old snow and an a basin only pass.

I don't think Alterra would choose to kill the park. They've been building a bigger park at Solitude each year and continue with the massive scale of Mammoth's unbound every season. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing while everything at ABay is shaken up

A basin park was sick because you could ski the best terrain in summit and then go hit some chill rails on the way to the base

FYI i sent a similar email to A Basin and this was their response:

"The decision is based on the prioritization of our resources, mainly water. We use snowcat time/fuel, snowmaking water and energy, and terrain park staff time to create a product that not enough of our guests use to justify their construction. Coming off the second worst snowmaking season we have ever had, the decision was made to prioritize the water to make sure our skiing surface is the best product it can possibly be for a long season. It wasn’t the easiest decision, but our operations folks felt it is the right one for now. "

i dont. its not really a fall off if you were never on lol

at least INSPIRED me, something i’ve been lacking during the dry season. i think a park crew / digger episode is near.

Last time I went was May 2023, used a real deal and got in for free, still feel like they scammed me.

The only valid reason I would go is if Im already going to Copper and I hear Nick Lyons is at Arapahoe, prior to picking up passes.
