hmmm, where do i start?

Okay, Lately, i havent been getting any better when i ski. Its the same old stuff over and over, and whenever i try something new i just hurt myself. Im stuck and i dont know what to do.

What should i do, how should i attempt to progress?

thanks

I had the same problem last year in whistler.. I improved a lot from Nov-Jan but I got in a rut from about mid January to mid february. Not that I couldn't ski well but I just wasn't getting any better. I decided to switch it up and just started riding the pipe, something I hadn't really ever done that much before. I'm not in any way a good park skier but it really helped to develop a new skill and it showed me that I could in fact do new things. When I got back into big mountain stuff I just kept pushing myself to try things that were previously beyond my mental capabilities.

Now since you're in ontario and there isn't much big mountain to do I would suggest just ski around the mountain without going into the park for a week or something... that way when you go back you can have a fresh start. I don't know if that will help but it worked for me.

i got the same problem as you dude, theres nothing on the hill that we can progress on,i was way better last year and this year,i cant do fuck all,its terrible,im the verge of quitting cuz its too friggin terrible and im the only skier so i got no one to push, its depressing

yeah i kinda have the same problem but ive just sucked all year...ive started to try more on rail..which for some reason im not very afraid too do...and more in the pipe. but yeah that should help..

.............and that brings us to our next point...dont smoke crack

Here in vancouver, the local mountains are having a tough time progressing as well.

The progression of the snow falling has seized.

Oh well. maybe next year.

fuck that, im progressing so damn well, i love this season so far. a month ago i seriously could barely do a 180 (as sad as that sounds its true) but now im throwing hucked 7s and 9s and spins below that with grabs and double grabs, and also today i tried some cork 5s like fucking super inverted...i love this season. praise be to the east coast

so fuck you too

you probably have shit that you can progress on such as maybe tables which we dont even have! and lots of different rails,we only got a stupid fucken 12 footer thats got like a 6 inch gap in the middle, its horrible

yea around here we don't have much to do.. I however have been progressing a lot.. just trying new things, I can now land clean on my 5's and am working on 7's and rails, if your lacking on things to do just work on what you can do styling everything out

'Don't like hesh - Don't like rap - kicked ol' sally cos she fat - I'm a jerk I'm a punk took a shower cos I stunk - smoked a bong killed a cat - had my nuts attacked by rats dad got nude - I wore a thong - for a hobby I make bombs' Tom DeLounge

dude, our jumps arent like fucking amazing...theyre ok i guess...kinda short landing...not really that big (like 30-35 feet maybe) and yea...its jsut keep on doing with that shit you have. as far as rails go..right now we have a normal straight rail, a trapezoid rail thing that was homemade by a guy that works ther and a lil mailbox...thas about it..........i wont really say anything about our amazing pipe though (225 feet long, 16 foot walls and just amazingly perfected) and yet i havent really done anything cool in tnhe pipe

so fuck you too

Hey mike. i donno what to do. But i have had no problem with progression this year. I had never been in the pipe before, i started this year, and i can get up to 5 feet out. it is wicked. I just started rails again (i had a few bad experiences last year), and i can do them again. So.... maybe that guys thing about waiting a week is a good idea.

yeh man i would say wait, but keep trying because it will give u time to think about it and maybe get some help to do the trick u really want.

TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS, KICKING YOUR OWN ASS

okay..i found the problem:

I suck

heh, but seriously..im just gonna disconnect my brain when im in the park. common sense is holding me back.

thanks for everones input!

dont worry man, its just how shit works... you learn new shit then you suddenly slow down... im sorta in that phase to

'pro - peagna? What the fuck is that?' - my friend looking at my Propaganda DVD (he's not to bright)

'nah im still going to ski, im just going to board when im... bored...' darryl hunt

yeah i am in your place too. I can't do anything i couldn't do last year. All i did learn this year was to spin the opposite way i did last season, but i can't spin both ways. And today i was trying a rail that i have never done and ended up breaking a ski. Maybe it is good that it broke, it will give me some time off.

all u have to do is go back to the small stuff and add more to the tricks. for rails u can try disastering, switch ons, 270 off or on, switch off etc. and for jumps add as many different grabs as u can to all your spins, try taking off switch, try spinning unatural. thats all u have to do to keep yourself interested. its working for me pretty good for rails cuz our jumps suck ass, ive been stuck on the same rail for like 3 ski days and so far ive almost mastered a switch disaster. 3 ski days ago i couldnt do that.

Tip-2-Tip

i didnt mean to sound cocky there, but what imeant to say was i was trying them, fucked up on them and then went inverted then fell and hurt a lot

so fuck you too

Honestly, find some new terrain! Find whatever you're worst at and ski it! If you have moguls at your area, rip the bumps until your legs give out. Burn down the NASTAR course for a while. Then, go watch some videos. Also, you could be forgetting how to trick:

1) Think about what it takes to land the trick you want to. Don't just envision the trick, envision stomping it and the run-out as well.

2) Think about technically what it takes to do the trick. Where are your skis going? Where are your arms going? And most importantly, where is your head going?

3) Ski with people who you like to ski with. If they're about your skill/chicken level, all the better. You'll feed off each other and do that much better.

4) Find someone to shoot you if you can. This does a couple things. First, you're going to be trying that much harder to land it on film. Second, if it doesn't go like you envisioned it to, you can look at the video and see exactly what you did or didn't do.

Getting back to square one helps sometimes.

Go back and work on the smaller things, like buttering or getting super comfortable riding switch. Then you can take those and put them together with bigger airs and what not.
