No moment of silence today

At events or schools, on 9/11, they usually have a moment of silence to honor the victims and their families of that tragic day. Usually on 9/11, at my school, the morning announcements come on and after them a moment of silence. I was pretty fuckin heated that there wasn't a moment of silence today in my school. Nobody even seemed to notice it except a few people.

has this happened in anyone else's school?

That's because it's time to move on and stop letting that day affect our lives, like the terrorists wanted.

Everyone on IG thats posting something related to it is hilarious. People will try to get likes off of anything, even 1,000+ dead.

You dont need a moment of silence with your classmates in order to pay respect. There wasnt even one on the military base this morning

it's not a significant enough event to pay a moment of silence for each year for ever. makes sense people aren't anymore now that its been over 10 years.

It just gets lumped together with Veterans/Remembrance Day like all the other conflicts.

yea I was gonna bump an old one but I couldn't find it.

I started one a few years ago that was something along the lines of "where were you?" or "when did you first hear?" and it was interesting, but way too many members are too young to really remember.

I do realize that it has been awhile and it may not be as significant but I still think its worth showing respect for.

being silent for 10 seconds isnt a very challenging or time consuming task

are you even old enough to remember that shit?

and I hope you didn't think "vegan nerd" was an insult.

No, we don't fly at half-staff because the flag that was recovered from the rubble was flown at full to show that the terrorists didnt shake the United States

How can you say something like that man? 6 of my friends died on that day, they were named Akhmed, Akhmed, Akhmed, Akhmed, Akhmed, and Akhmed.

at some point you have to move on. otherwise, every single day would be littered with stuff to remember. just look up tomorrow on wiki and see how many people died on the 12th of september.

9/11 was an exceptionally tragic event, obviously. one to remember personally, but i dont think its good to have governmental moments of silence after the first year

Well, I believe Remembrance day in Canada is for fallen soldiers. Veteran's day is for all soldiers who have served in a war. So they are different. But 09/11 in the U.S. is "Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance."

I believe the poster felt that a thread would be warranted if there wasn't a moment of silence on what he thinks of as Remembrance Day (thinking we shared the same holiday)-- I was letting him know this is basically our equivalent. Today and Veteran's Day.

same at my school but guess what i dont give a fuck because america does shitty things to other countries

THEN LEAVE AMERICA. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT HERE....

you're welcome to your own opinion, but stating it in such a forceful manner isn't really such a chill thing to do. religious extremists have a similar problem... i also get easily offended by comments like this because i happen to give immense amount of fucks about what happened that day.

because your dumb ass government blew up four buildings, and did a terrible job of covering it up?

I personally don't think that warrants a moment of silence.

No, i'm not trying to disrespect people who know people, or people who died in the bombings. But I honestly don't think it was that big of a deal from the time I could think about it.

If it wan't a conspiracy, the us had something coming for years.

At your schools, you pray and have ceremonies. At UVM, we have Wings Fest, and everyone gets free wings. Love it here

I'm not offended or anything, but will you people give it a rest for a while? I really don't care that much who did it, but it was a fucking tragedy, and a lot of people, particularly on the east coast where newschoolers are concentrated know someone that was killed.

idk this happened last year but everyone freaked out and starting talking shit about our school on twitter so the administration had one

sure yes it was a tragedy and it sucks people had to die but everyone needs to forget it happened and move on

"that shit"

That shit is what I honestly believe, Bush ran your country into the motherfucking floor, which in turn dragged the one that I live in down a fuck ton as well. There's too much evidence against the government to not say something, the sooner you guys realize that it was an inside job, the sooner you can move on and stop worrying about the entire area that your country invaded, stole from, and then started a war against.

if you guys forgave and forgot, the world would be a much better place.

This is true to a certain extent. Did the government crash those planes into the towers no they didn't. they did however use it to lie to the public and take information that other country's said was most likely not correct, and was not confirmed and say it was 100% true to start a war.

Eh, debate.

The real truth isn't coming out for the next 50+ years so really, I said what I had to say, and now i'll be leaving.
