No JOSS, JOI with new format.

sounds good

put on a legit rail jam too, besides rail to riches there isn't really a rail jam competition in skiing today, its a shame.

Jesus what's up up with all the Jon Olsson dick riding?! I think it sucks that Joss isn't being organized this year. For me it's the coolest skiing event of the year and I always extremely enjoy the edits and look forward to it immensely. Who cares about yet another big jump contest. Really?! I watch Joss and don't even watch any other contests besides maybe Xgames and red bull linecather. Joss has such a wider reach. I think Jon is underestimating the impact of this decision. There are a lot of people that enjoy skiing videos but don't give a flying fuck about some big-air contest (even if there's a lot of trips and dubs)

Jon please think about this decision some more, the make a video format is so much cooler than ant other contest. I can see that this maybe is better for the riders. And your event has always been an event for riders I guess, but ultimately all the contests and all the sponsoring is to serve the crowd. I don't think that this is the best way to serve the crowd, skier yess, crowd no.

I'm disappointed to say the least.

It's a one year break, quit your moaning. You're still going to get hours of completely free footage of 15 of the creme de la creme of professional "trick" skiers plus an additional 15 wild cards. For free. Nonetheless, he's trying to mix up the usual format of JOI and it's a great opportunity for many a skier to get their names out there.

I think it's so inane to bitch about free entertainment and events, especially when we still are, although rising to the surface of interest, a niche sport. JOSS really could use a break, with the terrible judging and unclear rules - a lot of people were unhappy and this year can only be good for Super Sessions.

the jon olsson dick riding is because everyone has been asking for a change in competition format and jon is doing exactly that with his own competition. if you dont like it dont watch it.

this is exactly what i was thinking, although the event sounds sick, and the 15 video qualifiers is gonna be interesting, i think the current format will lead to a lot of repetition of tricks and conservative jumps for most of the elimination rounds (think king of style).

I'm not interested in seeing skiers get their name out there, I want to see edits with the world's best skiers. Saying i'm disapointed is bitching?! JOSS has always been the most interesting part of Jon's event for me, i'm just sad to not have that to look forward to this year.

The bitching about competition formats is tiring, the one event that was really different is now more like the shit everyone is bitching about.

and also: I bet ya the 15 riders are gonna be all the usual names.

I guess bitching was a bit of a derogatory term here, sorry. I just think a lot was wrong with JOSS this year. Heck, it's even on record how stressful the event is to the guy pulling the strings and trying to keep everyone happy, and even getting slapped in the face by a few competitors in the aftermath.

Maybe this is more like a sabbatical, to let the man rest a bit with only one feature and location to worry about and let the good and improved ideas for the next JOSS sieve through.

I'm so glad. Seriously the year the JOI became one jump and the year after that were insane. So much went down that was just so ahead of the time.

This is a good thing, having one perfect jump as opposed to five great jumps will get much more banger footage. Taking a break from the usual JOSS format is a good idea especially considering all the BS that happened last year.

At first I was bummed, but the more I think about the more I realize that this could be really good. It would be an insane contest and Jon will definitely deliver

I wonder if anyone will try to 90-revert-270 in the air again. That alone, no matter how awful it looked, should definitely be enough to put you through a round.

I'm really looking forward to this. When it comes down to it, Jon makes sick jumps so with all of his focus on one jump this year shit's gonna be nuts.

I'm surprised nobody has drawn attention to what I'd imagine to be one of the key factors in this decision: that many of the top filmers and probably skiers too are getting less keen on giving up 2 weeks of prime spring filming time to participate in JOSS when they could be filming park shoots for their film companies, for which they get paid...

Anyway, I think some cool shit is gonna go down for sure!

This is gonna be sick.. I really hope that there's like a 540 and 720 comp again cause that was so sick last time. Makes it so its not a total dubfest

that's too bad, the edits were by far the sickest part of the whole thing. that's really what made it unique. glad it will be back next year at least

i am really gonna miss the joss edits, joss was my favourite event of the year for sure. Although im sure this contest is going to be sick!

SOO down. JOI progressed the sport when the pros would only hit one perfect jump for a whole week. cant wait to see what will get thrown down this year.

There's no difference apart from a better jump and maybe some less well known riders getting to attend, than from any other big event.

Would actually be progressive if the format was changed like Jacob suggested, JOI would actually have the time to do this as JOSS usually runs for a week or whatever. Could still have the 1 shot wonder mega flip contest alongside it and would see what people prefer

last years JOSS edits were incredible but the whole thing ended up turning into a giant shit storm.

This sounds like a very solid idea and I'm excited for JOI to come back. Jon always builds the best jumps, and I have a feeling some serious talent will be thrown down

cool idea, will miss the edits like everyone else, but it should be pretty cool Limiting rounds I think would make it simply magic, like one 5's and 7's only round, or no same trick twice. With just a little tweaking it will be amazing.

pretty pumped, this is going to be sick, although i would have to say it would be sicker if each round was given one more run per rider, and then some sort of rule against riders repeating tricks, or at least back to back in a round, or back to back rounds?

This contest type is really great. But it's not that new.
Actually, we launched our Big-Air event 3 years ago, in Switzerland, with the exact same battle type. It's called the Survival of the Fittest.

Good idea to apply this format to JOI, It will bring some fresh stuff for sure.

Interesting to see how many of the wildcards go to Swedish riders or if it is a complete free-for-all - which would be really sick. Just based on the KOS comp look at some of the names (for arguments' sake) that weren't in the top 1516) TJ Schiller
17) Russ Henshaw
18) Tom Wallisch
19) Gus Kenworthy

20) PC Fosse
21) Kim Boberg

22) Ole Christian Mustad
23) Axel Östlund
24) Niklas Eriksson
25) Jesper Tjäder
26) LJ Strenio
27) Linus Tornberg
28) JF Houle
29) Henrik Harlaut
30) Simon Ericson
31) Oscar Wester
32) Niklas Karlsson
33) Oscar HarlautWould be awesome to see all those guys' qualifying vids.

I think someone should make an event like Street league!tech section, big kicker, and halfpipe.same style: 7 attempts every attempt counts.admit that could get insane!probably more insane than real street league.

this would be AWESOME.

Think how cool it would be if there was a dub 12 round before the finals and a no repeating tricks rule so that the finals would be something more than just dub 12 mutes.

Me too, and think about all the great edit submissions we'll be seeing from those trying to get in!! A season of killer edits!

this sounds like an overall sick competition. 15 vid qualify spots is gonna bring in a lot of up and comers.
i really hope some more creative shit goes down, rather than dubcork10 after dubcork10 after dubcork10. time will only tell

the sports will progress a couple years worth in a matter of a week. Jon is cementing his legacy as an innovator of not only tricks but comp formats that allow for the quick progression of the sport. x games take notes.
