Nikon or Canon

I am having trouble finding the right camera.

I am currently looking at the Canon t2i, is there a Nikon camera that is better for the same price?

They're so comparable you'd be happy with either choice.

But I'd say if you're gunna do a lot of video go with the T2i. If photography is more your cup of tea, a D3200 is Nikon's camera of the same caliber.

D5200/D3200 both rock. I think they might even be better.

the D5200 films 1080p at 60fps and it's only 579 on amazon, idk why everyone thinks canons are the supreme in ski filming.

Canons were originally much better. Even though the Nikon D90 had hd video before the canons, I'm pretty sure it lacked manual exposure and was 720p. Canon did a good job, people kept buying, they kept selling the same product (t2i, t3i, t4i), etc. nikon caught up/surpassed, but many people already have nice canon lenses. Currently, the other big advantages of canon are legacy lens comparability, and magic lantern.

i've never used a nikon other than maybe holding it for a few seconds. But i gotta say, I'm pretty happy with Canon and how my cameras have performed and held up over the years. So my vote goes to canon.

I think you mean the d5300, the d5200 doesn't have 1080/60p.

Personally, I prefer Canon for video simply because you can install magic lantern on their cameras, along with the fact that you don't have to stop recording just to change settings. I've had ML for about a year and it is a really awesome piece of software. Having zebras and focus peaking that actually work is immensely helpful when you can't afford a $500 monitor, and the intervalometer is super effective for timelapses. It's definitely something to consider.

At what point in time exactly? Film days: definitely definitely nope, Digital: nope.

Hahahahahaha......no.

Native legacy lens compatibility with Nikon is unsurpassed (unless we mention Leica, or Alpa but Alpa isn't really native and priced obscenely and everyone is still too poor for Leica so still no.)

If you want to fumble with adapters, EVIL camera's have so much more options.

The d5200 actually does have 1080/60p, the d3200 does not.

No, it doesn't. Not sure why you brought up the d3200 either, I never mentioned that particular body. The d5300 is the only Nikon crop body that films at 1080/60p

It films 1080/60i, not 1080/60p. Interlace (i) and progressive (p) recording are very different. Progressive lays lines down in a sequential order and creates one complete picture with all of the lines (1,2,3,4), and that picture is considered a frame. Interlace video creates one image only with the odd lines (1,3,5) and one with the even lines (2,4,6). These are then woven together, and each "image" counts as a frame on its scale. So 60i is just 30p with weird line distortion.

Specific to video, canon offered better performance until very recently. The t2i/that generation was the first to include usable full hd video, and nikon never even matched them until very recently when they surpassed canon with their newer models (d5300 was one I believe). For stills, they were superior until autofocus was widely used professionally, where canon had a big edge (by using the new EF mount and abandoning FD). Now, both systems are more than capable of giving good results for most applications in regards to photos.

Nikon can use any nikon lens or leica r. Canon can do all that, as well as ones like olympus/pentax/contax just to name a few. While EVIL's can use even more, they are an entirely different tool.

For a higher budget, an EVIL is best for video/most types of photography. A dslr is superior for sports because of the autofocus, and for flash work (mostly just system comparability/support). For t2i range budget, most EVIL's are out of the question, and therefore I would say to go with canon because of magic lantern and vintage lens compatibility.

for the record the d3300 does as well

What the hell are EVIL cameras? Mirrorless?

Electronic viewfinder, interchangeable lens (I believe), so essentially mirrorless. I've seen it used occasionally on other forums, but I was mostly just trying to use the same terms as omnidata

compatibility.

And this was my biggest problem with your earlier post, it had no context, and thus hollow statements, not that you need to back up everything with arguments but you get my point.

EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable-Lens) Ken Rockwell's preffered nomenclature, and we all must listen to the man who doesn't color correct. but instead adjusts your world to match his.

Morally perverse, such as the Canon PedoShot 200.

Or the Kyocera Teddyshot 5.
