Nikon D40x?

i'm not all about ebay but they had them going for $500 and i would get on that deal. I've read reviews but I didn't know if anyone on NS had direct feedback
 
make sure that deal didnt say BODY ONLY...make sure there is a lense in there and a good one too...other than that its defn a gret starter camera...just upgrade the lense down the road once u get use to everything...
 
i have it, everything is good about it, east to transition to , good quality, and fast, best camera for the price, but your probably not getting much for it with just $500
 
have it. love it. i paid a little more. but i got it back in august. I can do so much with it. Haven't had a chance to shoot in the cold yet. but everything else it's the best thing ever.
 
well, everybody and their best friend hates D40's besides the owners

its not a very good camera, they made it based on the fact that once you've bought your first SLR or DSLR you're most likely gonna stay with that company based on cost of lenses and shit.

so basically its just something to pull you into the nikon family that really doesn't perform that well compared to a lower level canon like the XT, of course i fuckin hate how the XT feels like a toy so ya. just dont buy a D40 for your own good.
 
Shane's right. They're not awesome but they're ok. You really don't need the 40x. Those 3 or 4 mp don't make ANY difference in quality. It is a good starter cam though.
 
it is a good starter camera. The point is that for the price that it is, it makes sence. If I had the option of getting a 10 meg camera for the same price as a 6 meg.....hmmmmm no brainer there. Its also not just a difference of a few Meg here or there, there are other features as well that you may get with the higher meg cam, typically speaking.
 
you're right, i don't shoot nikon but i have seen posts on photography forums like this:

well i shoot a d40 ( i know i should kill myself) and also like this: i just bought my d40 and realized im looking for something a little better

which brings me back to my point its kind of a gimmick to bring you into the nikon family, sure they'll perform at a substantial level but personally i'd be looking for something a little better than substantial...
 
so which is it? you shoot or don't shoot nikon? lol. Nikon doesn't have a gimmick to bring you into their family. The D40 is a straight beginner camera. I've shot all kinds of cameras in the past, whether it be Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, Olympus, and out of all of them I feel most comfortable with Nikon. I've been shooting it for years. If you are looking for something better in cam quality and advancment, I would suggest the D70 or the D80 (as far as Nikon).
 
I just got a D40 for Christmas/ my birthday, and it is the funnest thing I've ever used, it is so conveniant and easy to use aswell. I can only imagine how much better the D40x is...
