Night jobs

I'm nocturnal and I want a career where I work at night and don't make shit pay. However, that I know of, that's the only flavor they come in.

Help me out NS

ok, that was fun. but seriously-- let me think of a good answer here...how about someone who works at the airport?

yeah but aren't they on-call and pretty much work random shifts? Maybe you'd get to a point where you could choose when you were on call or choose your shift, but wouldn't you have to get seniority before you got there? Plus becomming an ER doctor is a long road for OP, I say get a job in a different time zone and just fly back and forth everyday.

most ER doctors don't become them because someone mentioned it in a thread when they couldn't think of it themselves.

I worked third shit for the last few years. At first i thought it was sweet. Then i realized how much it sucks... never being able to go out with your friends because you have to work, being able to sleep with the girlfriend for only a few hours and being on a total different shift got old real fast. Not that its a career really but you could drive a cat. Warehouse jobs are all three shifts usually too

I used to work nights as a Pca at the hospital. More or less you cleanup shit and whatnot 11-7 or 7p-7a. Started at 13$ an hr, nights get an extra 25%, weekends an extra 25% too. You barely need a high school diploma. I did it to get into grad school but you can make 30gs a year easy not doing much

a cat? like a groomer?

and I'm gonna sound weird but I don't really ever hang out with people or friends and I like being by myself so it's not really an issue!

I guess it depends how you look at it. I was always better functioning at night. Even if I slept 9am to 3pm, it was way better than 12am - 6am. I only had to work 3-4 nights a week. If I wanted to change back over to a "normal" schedule, I'd either not sleep for a night, or just drink a bunch of booze with my friends and I'd pass out and reset my clock.

haha most times I could go to sleep at 9a and wake up at 12 or 1 to watch a game (specifically march madness) and still be able to booze all day and have a great time. I guess it's for some people and not others though

You could say it had me down in the dumps.

But yeah i mean driving a groomer. Most shifts are either 4-12 which imo os the good shift or 12-8. Nothing like blastin around in a badass diesel tank for 8 hours a night

yo do u have a engeniering degree? find a manufacturing plant that works 24/7 theres alot of good paying jobs any 24/7 manufacturing plant. look for a semiconductor plant that runs 24/7 like intell or ibm. theres all kinds of good paying jobs involved in keeping the tools up and running pumping out wafers. depends how much ur trying to make. otherwise just get a job at a grocery store stocking shit and be mega baked all night and listin to tunes. get in to abusing cocaine too

I'm a firefighter and I work a 2-2-4 shift pattern. So I do 2 days (9am - 8pm) then 2 nights (8pm to 9am) then I get 4 days off. It's pretty dope, not exactly all night work but my 4 off give me time to do exactly what I want.

The shift systems are different all over America, most places do one 24 hour shift followed by 48 hours off. FDNY do a shift system similar to mine but the days off are more complicated.

Working shifts isn't for everyone constant night shifts would get old pretty fast, it's OK when you're young but hard to maintain any normal sort of life long term.

it's so hard in my area to become a firefighter. you have to volunteer for a decade+ before you've even really got a shot.

Yeah it's pretty crazy, it's hard everywhere but depending where you live it can be almost impossible. Some places the Chief just chooses the guys he wants because they're his friends kid or whatever. But it's a sweet job if you're willing to work your ass off to get in.

Im a steward at our Student Union (Our uni nightclub, they are normally shit but ours is good with the likes of example and wiley being live acts, tonight im working and Matrix and Futurehead who are 29th in the radio 1 top 40 are playing) Its basically a mix between bouncer and first aider, pretty fun and the people I work with are awesome and because the majority of our patrons are students we dont have to have that whole "Ill be a dick" attitude like Bouncers in other clubs.

I'm a web developer. I work whatever hours I want from wherever I want.

Right now I'm in Summit, CO... Last week I was in Los Angeles, The week before that I was in Mammoth. Next week I'll be in aspen and in a Month I'll be in Tahoe. 2 months... hoping for Austria or Washington.

So yeah, it's pretty fucking great. I usually work in the evenings/nights cause I ski during the day. But right now I have a broken elbow so I sleep in, work, and then enjoy the evening. Pay is decent too.

just think of places that don't close. lots of retail stores don;t close and they need managers for some of those shifts. hospitals have been mentioned. My mom works nights as a labor and delivery nurse.

and then there is the one where you start your own business. you can do lots of analyzing or consulting if you don;t have to work with your clients face to face. you can write up reports and get them to your clients by email and stuff. or you could create your own product and set your own production hours.

drug dealer is a great night job becauseyou can make your own hours and it pays well. normaly calls dont start till 7 or 8 and you get out by 3 or 5 at the latest.

when i was a janitor i would sometimes do night shifts, usually for big projects in the warehouse or office like putting in shelving or furniture or drywall or sometimes just for "deep cleaning" of certain areas.

the work was awesome because i was the only guy around and could basically just bump music and do my thing, nobody around to give a fuck how loud my tools were or how much dust i made.

also i would bring a fucking gas powered pressure washer in to spray down the bathrooms. no fucks given.

but then waking up in the morning after working all night and trying to do real people shit was fucking awful and those nights would fuck my circadian rhythm sideways.

so whatever man.

Working internationally? I'm not sure what jobs specifically, but I have a friends who's neighbor works with developers in China and does all of his work at night.
