Nick Mercon?

fuck I hope not, he was my coach at Camp of Champions in 2002... him Omar and Tufflemeir are All Time

Copper OGs. Nick's casual cork 9 in the pipe. Good times hitting the not-so-secret booter in Union Meadows with those guys. 90's and Oughts, Pre-Intrawest Copper was a golden age. The park was on Bouncer, Summit was only crowded on MLK and Presidents. Takes me back.

Quick google search shows no results for Nick in years other than a shoutout by Plake about a 2001 movie. Hopefully not. One would think it'd make the Daily at least.

Did Nick Mercon die recently?

Yes, unfortunately he did pass away October 12th. He was a very close friend of mine here in his hometown. How did you hear about it?

hey, man, i'm sorry for your loss. Nick was really a hell of a skier. the dude could spin and flip better than most. and he was a real personality - no one could tame him, and he kept it fresh.

i was lucky to work with him back in the early PBP days.

i saw a post back when Jon McMurray died a month ago, suggesting that we had just lost Nick Mercon in the same week. really sucks.

RIP. Guatamalen Persuader is an absolute ski cult classic, and will never be out-done.

really sad if true. Him and GT were awesome dudes to watch growing up. wonder how many of these youngsters even know who either of those legends are???

Unfortunately, it’s true. Nick only had a handful of friends here in Valparaiso and I was one of the lucky few. He was a very unique guy, but a loyal friend and a fish out of water here in the Midwest. His family is devastated, which is likely why there hasn’t been an obituary or services yet.

I'm a close friend of the Mercon family, I work for his Dad. Unfortunately, it's true about Nick. He took his own life, after a bout with personal problems. Meaning he turned to alcohol, he had a stressful job in lawn maintenance. Foreclosures that had him working 16 hour days 7 days. At a point he just gave up. Had a great GF and new dog but pulled every direction by his job, and any other stress. Hope that helps guys.

Nick's family made the decision to keep it private, service and viewing were held not long after. Only family attended. No obituary or headstone either.

damn.. this is some sad shit.

I remember him for having that goat chompee as a pet. definitely one of the original OG's to watch in early park skiing type vids.

S.I.P homie, you're in a better place.
