I would kill to have crank windows in my car haha

Curious as to why?

Because my car is an '89 and electronics fail after some time. Usually cheaper to fix a crank window for an old/uncommon car than an electronic one. Plus it's just satisfying to do stuff yourself lol

Changing out the electric ones isn't bad either as long as the wiring is still ok.

In general I don't like old beetles but appreciate what they are. Not a stance guy either, more of a rally guy and kinda like track racing but with some cars I don't see why you would make it scrape, anything with potential or is purpose built to race should be raced, ex: Mitsubishi evo should be used on a rally stage or racetrack not hard parking at McDonalds. Its just how I think. Some cars look good stanced but need to be done right in my eyes, no stretch or bizzare camber and not to low.

I call it personal preference plus to me its worth more to spend money on suspension for racing and being functional not scraping, blowing tires and having to explain to people why your car looks the way it does. People can do whatever they want to their car, I can't make them do what I want to it.

This article applies to you and every other kid who has ever judged somebodies build without actually building something legit of their own.

I will let speedhunters do the talking because I 100% agree with this article because I have dealt with everything that he talks about with my past builds.

If you don't want to read the entire article because you're lazy, please read this bit right here.

"When you’re raised to believe that only your opinion matters, you immediately remove any opportunity to learn from your life. Countless times I’ve read harsh one-word comments which thrash someone’s hard work with no justification or even the decency to qualify their stance. Or worse. Rather than appreciating an awesome final product, they immediately turn it around into what they would have done to make it 'better'. This latter example exemplifies the increasing levels of narcissism displayed by a lot of Millennials, typically none of which have ever done anything to show that they are even remotely capable of creating something on their own in the first place. Instead, they believe that the rest of us mere mortals should be grateful that they’ve shared their virtuous judgement with us.

Politely, they can f**k off."

but you're not, you're saying what some people do is wrong or stupid, saying their time and effort is just a waste.

just sick of hearing people shit talk other builds simply because they wouldn't drive it. you really don't have any idea the kind of effort people put into these types of builds.

Actually I do see the effort its just I either agree or disagree with how the car functions or looks. I've met a few kids who work their asses off to keep the car going. I just sometimes state what I think and question why they did what they did. I use to be much worse with hating on stance and that stupid shit but I've mellowed out, a bit. Sorry if I bothered you, I forgot how hot blooded stance people can get. Lol.

Its not that "stance" people are all uptight about people criticizing their builds, its that when people judge and hate on your project when they have no experience or history of building cars of their own it just sounds like hating for the sake of hating and being a dick.

I honestly want to know if you have any projects you have ever built or done yourself and if you have really had the chance to experience a track car vs. a stance car and the life of maintaining/building each of them. If you have, please share and all of your comments will be validated. Until then, please STFU.

I have not for any cars I've owned but Ive helped my brother with his dsm and seen it go from a little shitbox to a fun ass car that handles like a champ.

I guess some people like tall shift knobs. As far as I know there isn't any real benefit of having the extension just kinda a what feels right to you thing.

Ahhh fair enough, cool idea.

Benefits?

More of just a preference thing. I have the factory short shifter on there plus another part that shortens the shift throw even more. It was really short, but it made it require more effort to get into gear. So now it gives me a little extra leverage and is still short.

The factory shifter feels pretty crappy so all this helped a lot.

Right on, In my old subie lgacy gt wagon, the shifter bushings had all worn down(possibly fell out completely). Extremely interesting time to find gears before i got it fixed... Fun stuff, miss that car a lot. Stupid head gasket..

I'm assuming you have a shortcut plate with the short shifter? Have you bought a counterweight? I bought a short shift plate (cable re-locate) and with a new shifter counterweight, my shifts are just right. I can see them being much more difficult without a weight.

here's a pic of my new ride i got earlier this year, 5 speed 2007 vw rabbit, originally blue, did the paint job myself , it came out pretty nice considering i've never painted a car before

What type of paint did you use?

you are the worst type of car owner.

He could have used actual spray paint and made it look probably worse and have it be permanent. With plasti dip you can just peel it off fairly easily.

Really considering picking up one of these. I live in a big city with chargers everywhere i go, and electric cars have free parking, no road tolls, and they can drive in the buss lanes. I drive around a lot at work, and it's nice to not get stuck in traffic everywhere i go. Plus the i3 is super fun to drive, it has 170 hp and only weighs around 1200kg. The power is instant, and the car is really agile. Even though it has super narrow tires, it handles really good. The batteries are located low in the back, and it's rwd.

I can even drive this up to my local mountain, which also has a charging station. Which is free to use off course. The range isn't good enough to take me to the real mountains, but i'll still have my other car for those longer trips.

I'd say go for it. I think that's probably the ideal electric commuter car. Just remember when you start to use that 170 hp that you aren't going right get the full range.

My dad has a nissan leaf which is fwd but still a blast to drive.

Wow Im actually surprised, I didnt know it was rwd until now and didnt know it packed 170hp still not a fan of the looks and still not onboard with full on electric cars and still not a fan of hybrids at least amongst sports cars...Definetley would have it over a prius now.

Picked up an OEM rack for the car for super cheap. Missing an end cap, but I'm picking up a replacement tomorrow. I've got a Thule ski rack, but need to retrofit it so it sits flush.
