Actually, in this instance I do have some idea what I'm talking about. Family has owned several Outbacks from new to past 100,000. The repairs necessary once they hit the 100,000 mark were ridiculous, and any Subaru repairs are 2-5 times what they are on a Nissan or Ford. Subarus are also difficult to repair oneself, and even basic mechanics can have difficulties.

They are great ski cars, and great cars all-around. I loved taking them on roadtrips and sleeping in them. However, with the price of new Outbacks having climbed significantly, I shy away from them now. Also, for whatever reason, Subaru does not seem to know how to make a clutch. I've driven manual my entire life, and out of the 4-5 Subarus my family has owned, all but one of them has shifted like absolute shit. This includes the brand new one the family just got.

5-8k seems a bit ridiculous for 100k service + whatever repairs may be needed afterwards. Timing belt, pulleys and seals, fluids changed should run no more than what...1500 at most? The first may have had this done already for all we know

If it's purchased from a reputable dealer, has proper maintenance records and he actually takes care of the car, I don't see him spending near what he paid for the vehicle on repairs.

based on what? comparing labour costs of working on FWD cars to AWD cars? Ford only makes two, and a third performance car which has not made it to market yet..

you have had issues with YOUR subarus and therefore ALL 10 year old subarus WILL have issues? thats called anecdotal evidence.

and as stated, he had not made ANY indication about his mechanical skill, or connections, all he asked for was an opinion between two different subarus.

im saving for a fxt or wrx. Right now i have an outback (ej251) almost at 200k still running strong.

I love the WRX/STI. I always have and likely always will. That said, I can't remember the last time I went for a drive and didn't see at least one WRX. Even if it's just a five minute drive, I see one. There is something to be said for driving a car that when people see it (or, even better, hear it!) and have no idea what it is.

Definitely something to be said about having something unique. My brother has a slammed 62' Beetle and he could pull up next to a Ferrari or a Lambo and he'd get more looks.

Probably because everyones saying "look, that kid ruined a classic car"

Not a kid and didn't ruin it...

I wouldn't call it stanced cause there really isn't any camber on it.

There is definitely camber. It's not insane, but he's got 9.5's in the back and there is only like a couple inches of contact. It was the only way to tuck the wheels in. He considered an air set-up, but ended up going static. It's pretty hairy to drive, but also a lot of fun. Low and slow. Ha ha.

I definitely get what titus is saying. Honestly, I like the look of low/slammed Beetles better than stock/restored. I think it also goes back to having something a unique and not like every other car out there.

In general I don't like old beetles but appreciate what they are. Not a stance guy either, more of a rally guy and kinda like track racing but with some cars I don't see why you would make it scrape, anything with potential or is purpose built to race should be raced, ex: Mitsubishi evo should be used on a rally stage or racetrack not hard parking at McDonalds. Its just how I think. Some cars look good stanced but need to be done right in my eyes, no stretch or bizzare camber and not to low.

To the guy with the b6, looks super clean man! Here's my 6 speed 2005 B7 A4 wagon

Haven't done much to it too far, just catback magnaflow exhaust and a few little intake things. It's sitting on alzor 349's right now. Hopefully going to get Stage 1 tune from APR after I go to court and bring boost from stock 8 to 15 psi for the winter, and gonna get a black ski box off craigslist too. Coilovers coming in the spring, it looks like a monster truck right now lol!

New winter whip. 1998 jdm subaru legacy gtb e-tune. Twin turbo powa!!! The other wagon is my roommates 1998 Nissan Stagea 260rs autech which is essentially a R33 GTR wagon. (rb26dett ftw)

Wow those wagons are awesome.

I must say I really like the bug above as well. People who think its ruined are just jealous that they cant restore/build a car like that.

Only recent photos I have. 06 WRX. Built motor, rotated turbo setup, STi swapped everything, 6 speed, etc. Too much to list. In the winter I swap out my suspension, slap on different wheels with blizzak tires, and mount the ski rack. She's muh baybay

Haha, well I just finished the motor build and just recently added some cosmetic parts along with having a few things repainted/paintmatched white, so no super recent pictures that would do it justice. I'll try to get a few new ones this week. In the mean time, here's one from a few years ago.

ommggg dat stagea. Most unique car I've seen so far in this thread. Need to get my ass up to Canada ASAP

My 99' suburban. These pics are pretty outdated, but I didn't feel like finding new ones. Since these pics were taken, I've blacked out the entire truck. It actually looks pretty sick. It has really low miles for a 16 year old truck too. Only 108k.

Where do you live. what turbo, and what piston, rod combo did you go with? Closed deck? What fuel?

Lacey, wa. Running pump gas for now. Will run E85 for laffs at some point. Open deck ej257, cp pistons, manley h beam rods, new sti crank, acl race bearings, arp head studs, head refresh, etc. Might do cams and head build down the road. Full ETS rotated kit which comes with garrett GT3076r w/tial hotside, vband everything, downpipe, uppipe, tial 44mm ewg, tial bov, 4" intake, running speed density. Full Aeromotive fuel system (plus walbro fuel pump) which includes fuel rails, everything AN fittings, fuel pressure regulator, aeroquip fuel lines. ID1000 injectors, tgv deletes, etc. Too much to list, not even including the transmission swap, suspension components, cooling system, audio, interior, paint, wheels, etc.

Basically the definition of a money pit lol.

Nice that has always been a favorite setup. I have a gt3563 with the tial hotside. But your car should be a fun little daily. I tuned a car that had a similar setup. gt3082 with bc272 cams springs and what not. Made about 400whp on pump gas. and closer to 530whp on e85. Such a fun torquey little beast. Nice car man!

Thanks man! I'm breaking it in now, but I look forward to finally getting it tuned and seeing what it puts out. I've got another block sitting at my house that I'll bore and sleeve one of these days. But that probably won't happen any time soon.

Give me a shout if you are interested in having me tune it. I have tuned 100's of subaru's and love traveling. I have been all over the PNW tuning them! I just recently left my job and started working independently.https://www.facebook.com/rspectune

Yeah man its fucking sick. We have pulled on so many $70k+ cars that don't even know what hit them. Nobody expects it and thats whats best. We recently did a gumbal style race out new Calgary and the Stagea was keeping up to 2010 m3's, AMG's and other exotics with no struggle. Pulls on 335i's all day long. When we got to the destination in Banff every at lunch was like "who the fuck owns that insanely fast black station wagon???1?!?!"

This is when he had it on SSR Viennas this summer.

I call it personal preference plus to me its worth more to spend money on suspension for racing and being functional not scraping, blowing tires and having to explain to people why your car looks the way it does. People can do whatever they want to their car, I can't make them do what I want to it.

and if i remember correctly... he isnt even old enough to drive a car

funny how that works
