CAR SHOWDOWN.
Decided to buy an old Z car for driving around in the summer. Trying to decide between these two... a 1982 280 ZX Turbo, and a 1984 300 ZX Turbo.
VERSUS
280ZX Notes
Pros:
-Only has 25,000 km. Absolute insanity. Lowest mileage I will likely ever see on one of these.
-More of a long-term project car; a number of things I'd change, such as...
-Some idiot replaced the radio with a CD deck, but fortunately they still have the original stereo apparently so would have to put that back in and undo the wiring nonsense they did.
-Seats are velour lowbacks with leather detailing; may need to swap them for fully leather buckets down the road.
-Biggest downside is it's an auto tranny. It's possible to do a conversion to 5sp manual but it's a major undertaking. Would probably wait a couple years before taking that one on.
-I like the front end better with the 70's style headlights.
-Garage kept. No paint issues at all.
-Some issues that may need repair; AC is semi functional.
300ZX Notes
-I always wanted one of these when I was a kid.
-90,000km; still quite low but not insanity-low like the 280.
-Overall appears to need basically nothing. So, less of a project car.
-Is super duper 80's. I think that's a point in favour, but I do prefer the body of the classic 280 a bit.
-The dash is fully digital which is basically the coolest thing ever; also, again, 80's as fuck
-Electric pop-up headlights: 80's 80's 80's.
-Leather appears in good shape.
-Is a manual
-Would have to buy it remotely and have it shipped (I'm heading to the area where the dealership is in 3 weeks), then get an out of province inspection done. Which is a bit of a hassle.
-Buying it remotely involves buying it sight unseen, which means I have to trust the dealer somewhat. They are a reputable dealer, though.
