Newschoolers, I need some advice.

So, my current computer is biting the dust, and ive decided on getting one of the new macbooks (2.4, with 4gb ram). I dont have enough money to pay for it myself (why is skiing so expensive?), and my parents are in a poor financial situation as well, and cant help. My grandfather has said he will do what he can to help pay for my education, and i will being going to college next, which is what this laptop is intended for. I want to ask him to pay for it, and i will pay him back in the summer when i get my job back. The issue is that my grandfather has difficultly understanding things (he made us return his netflix gift subscription since it requires him to make a password), and may not see the need for a nice computer.'

How should i go about asking him for help, he lives in fl and i live in maine. this will be via phone.

your help is appreciated.
 
you dont need a new macbook maxed out. get a refurbished or used one. look on ebay. you will save a good amount of money, and honestly i would never be able to ask my grandparents to buy me or help buy me a top of the line computer, its just selfish. sell some stuff that you dont use/need, make the money doing odd jobs then buy a used one...
 
if you don't need 4 gbs of ram and 2.4 GHz then don't get it. If your parents and you are in a tight financial situation just get the 2.0 ghz 2gb ram macbook or not even a mac. I like macs but if you can't afford it don't afford it. If you really need to go to your grandpa do so but in these times this is not a major necceasity. i would say try to get through this semester and get the laptop when you can afford it
 
Should have posted this in the beginning. Not looking for advice on the computer. Thats what i want, and thats what i will get. My parents arent going to be paying for this at all, i only mentioned them to give reason for asking my grandfather. I can afford the computer, i make bank in the summer (55hr/wk). This is only about asking my grandfather for an interest free loan until summer.
