when i joined this site, if you posted a question about a trick in ski gabber during the summer you would get berated with insults (searchbar fucking newb!). the forums were filled with people taking any opportunity they could to hate and belittle people. now, just about every request for trick advice is filled with positivity, good trick tips, and overall sharing of the awesomeness of skiing. we have gone from an entitled bunch of immature ski snobs to a community that really shares the stoke.

you stay classy newschoolers.

Most people are so surprised when they find out the actual demographics of NS -- like you said, members have grown up with the site!

What is your timeline here? When did you join, and when did you start to think to yourself "Man people are growing up around here."

I think the biggest thing is that positivity breeds positivity. Simply ignoring the stupid comments and posting helpful advice and quality discussion goes a super long way towards others doing the same.

Its really only a couple of shit-talking aliases that ruin the place. Funniest part is that when we track these people down its rarely real 12-year olds, mostly adults and industry people secretly hating.

i think i first joined in summer 2008 but lurked for a while before that, and it really hasn't been until this last year or so that people have gotten more encouraging. of course there are still guys like skierman and other trolls who keep the place entertaining but overall i think people have gotten much more positive and willing to help out the noobs.

IDK! I was old when I found NS.

But I get a kick out of posts made my people who have been on here for awhile. As a general rule I rate the veterans 10/10. I only rape their karma if they repeatedly act like pricks, but that is pretty rare.

I think you meant, "Its really only a couple of truth-talking aliases that makes this site fucking awesome while making childrenous n00bs think twice before making threads on what Wallisch was wearing or if Crested Butte is like skiing Mt. Snow".

Harsh truth talking is awesome.

Unfounded, unintelligent, annoying shit-talking is not good.

The problem is when people try to pretend to be an annoying 12 year old just to flame someone else.

Telling it how it is?

Priceless.

You NEVER got that in traditional media. Nobody had the sack to tell it how it was in print.

Another thing.. I've been using Newschoolers for about 8 years now and it's nuts how many usernames are still active on here now that were active back then. So many of the same people, but now we are all 8 years older.

It's also cool to see how members have matured with age. SteezyJibber is the first one that comes to mind... used to be so fucking annoying, but the kid has grown up.

Gah fuckin' triple post... noobin' out over here.

I like how the website design and features has matured, too. If I remember correctly, there was a 6mb video uploading limit when I first joined.

It's weird, I've been here for well over 2 years and I never have changed my name and I'm quite active but I feel like nobody knows me still.

Ehh, for what it's worth, yours is a username I recognize pretty regularly. There's a decent contingent of steady posters that are consistently active (in NSG at least) that seem like they've been around for some time - or at least since I started in '09.

I'd agree, I lurked around watching edits and what not for years before joining, then got hooked. I thought for sure I would be one of the oldest members at 37, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Freeskiing has nothing to do with your age, but everything to do with your state of mind. It's pretty dope that nsers is here to share the common interest.

I originally thought you to potentially be highly intelligent, with every post I begin to doubt that.
