its a cover by a perfect circle
Poland waged war against me and ran up my bandwidth allocation for the month. As a consequence, drawball will be down until September 1st. Sorry, all.
To clarify why I can't just pay for the extra bandwidth...
I
get 1500 GB per month at a fixed price of just over $100 per month, but
my host charges 50 cents/GB if I go over that limit. Drawball was
hitting 200 GB/day from this flag war. If I hadn't taken drawball down
yesterday, then if the trend continued, I'd have had to pay $100 extra
per day, totaling $1,000 by September 1st, which is several times more
than the server itself costs per month. I can't afford that, especially
since 99% of the flag war people happen to run ad blockers...

to warn you, it's currently infested by 4chan and very NSFW. I did find one brave artist's work off in the distance, though. http://www.hypah.com/fa.jpg
The
main scaling problem with drawball was the need to store all image data
in RAM at all times, which meant one drawball would take 400+ MB of RAM
on the server. That's why I can only really host two of them. This new
thing takes advantage of new techniques to work around the need for
that. I'll be able to host A LOT of them, for everyone.
There
will be text, too. It's actually already implemented, but I hid it from
the public test link. The way I did it rules because you can type with
any font on your own system, and everybody else will see it correctly
even if they don't have your font. That has been a nightmare plaguing
me for years, lol, but I finally came up with a solution...
There will also be more drawing tools than on drawball. Smudge/blur are in the works. Stay tuned.
The
appeal of this over drawball is that anyone will be able to have their
own personal expansive image hosting/drawing board just like this. I'm
planning to make it possible to keep the editing privileges strictly
controlled ([everyone/friends/me] [can/cannot] [upload pictures/draw]).
This way, strangers can look but not touch, and it's entirely up to you
who can alter your work. Yeah, I want to implement accounts with a
friend system.
The current state of this thing is sort of like
what your account's "profile" will be. You'll also have a user name and
a pic. What else is necessary, do you think?
I intend to
additionally make a fixed-width, vertically-scrolling version of this,
basically a live chat room where you can draw, type, and package images
into a message before sending it. These will be the primary space where
users actually interact with each other.
The final goal will
basically be a small social network for visually-oriented people with
an artistic flair. Hopefully it will catch on since it's all I work on
these days.
Also, none of this affects drawball. Drawball will NOT go away, and it will be back online September 1st.
Let me know what you think...
