So I'm doing a field assignment for my linguistics class this semester and I'm researching the slang that freestyle skiers use. So, if you could tell me a slang word or words, and then tell me your best definition, and also include where you are from, then you could be totally famous...ya know, with my professor :)
All names will be kept confidential, and it will be turned in and possibly could be on display for people to read just FYI.
All help will be definitely be appreciated!!! Thanks y'all!

The combination of "style" and "ease." The word is spelled with a z just to make it more steezy. straight from urban dictionary

afterbang. riding out all steezy from a trick like it was nothing. easiest most obvious one

Well, you know, the way I see it we've got four main words:

Gilla

Hyphy

Ignant (In da cool sense, not da ingnorant sense)

And Steezy, as previously stated, the root of which is steeze.

In addition, there are several main verbs used:

Afterbang

Heavyhead

And the notorious ragdoll...

Yardsale- Crashing and having gear spread about the hill

Jib- Jump, bonk, something to hit

lifties- lift line attendants

gnar- something gnarly

cocaine- ALL DAY ERE DAY

Newschoolers- community of Newschool style skiers. This style is based upon a new style of skiing centered around rotations, inverts, off axis rotations, steeze, and afterbang. This is a tightly knit community of these special skiers, and they can usually be spotted on the mountain with ease. The easiest way to spot a "Newschooler" is to look for a gathering of double-tippers most often wearing attire of or relating to the popular candy "Skittles." Newschoolers often wear and show off decals with the letters "NS" on them to inform other Newschoolers nearby that they are, in-fact, online buddies. This online community can usually be seen making fun of and or "powning newbs," chatting and dreaming of their "ski-god" Tom Wallisch (often referred to as Tammy Wamstick, Todd Walnuts, or Wammy Tallnutz), or just purchasing what they call "Full Tilts," special boots made to eliminate shin bang.

Blunt-grabbing the very tip of your ski's tailand as stated before: Afterbang. adding an extra bit of style to close off the trick upon landing.

"THUG"

thuglife1li.jpg

against contrary belief that THUG is purely defined by the above picture, here on NS the word has been somehow adapted to almost the exact opposite as it now relates to 15 year old skinny white kids who dress in clothes five sizes too big that their notably wealthy parents bought them and insist in putting gang signs in all ski edits.

Baller, dank, steezy.
BK (boner kill)
HSLATHAB!! (Holy shit look at those hot ass bitchs)
Snort
that
coke.

Sick, ill, dope, dank - all mean pretty much incredible, great, awesome.

Epic - great or beyond great.

Dirty, filthy - describes stylish trick or style that is just a bit more eye popping.

I'm too tired to remember anymore right now.

Something hilarious one of our ski heroes said after getting off the plane from filming in Portillo, Chile when he saw his girlfriend, "It was raining vagina (in Chile)!" Meaning: there were TONS of babes in Chile. I'm now going to use "raining vagina" because it's so amazing and fabulous anytime there are a ton of girls everywhere.
Things I say (I'm from S. California):Agro (aggressive/angry, "That dude was so agro!")Chillens/Cherubs (yes, like Icarus - when I'm talking about unruly children on the mountain I call them chillens or little cherubs)Crunk (this I took from the ski movie "Booter Crunk" and sometimes referred to a friend's foot as having "foot crunk")Dank (apparently though some people get SUPER angry when you use this in any context NOT talking about weed - in Southern California it is totally acceptable to say a jump/outerwear/park/pipe/mountain is dank)Dawg/mang/meng (just slang for guy friends, usually I'll just use mang I don't really use dawg)Eh (this is more Canadian, but I use it "What up eh?")Epic (trying to describe the park/pipe/conditions)Fresh (new, cool, exciting)Freshies (new snow)Giv'er (just give it all you have, skiing aggressively)Gnar/Gnarly (intense, insane - usually in a good way but you can say a run was gnarly, gnarly pow, gnarly fall, ect)"Holla!" (an expression when seeing a friend, or doing something really cool or seeing someone do something really cool)Hot (probably just a Paris Hilton knock off - sexy/cool/new)"Jea!" - (happy expression)Jimp (This I took from a buddy who skis at a S. California college and means "jizz in my pants and came from the video spoof, "jizz in my pants" but you'll catch people saying it when someone does a trick that's mind blowing or the conditions are just amazing (just saying "jimp." or "I think I just jimp'ed")Pow (fresh fluffy white snow - also "pow pow")Rad (awesome)"Safety Meeting" - (going to smoke ganj in the trees or in other secret location, call it a safety meeting or when someone asks where a friend is "he's in a safety meeting," or "he's being safe.")Sesh (session - either park or see "Safety Meeting")Steeze/steezey (this has already been covered - style + ease)Stoked/stoke/stokage (happy, excited - a way to talk about the level of excitement going on "So much stokage at The Meeting in Aspen this past weekend!")
Hope this all helps, I might have more and if I do I'll add to it.

huck- to throw a tricks super hard and not positive of outcome (ah man i just hucked that cliff)

hyphy- rediculous, high energy, crazy. (that guy is so hyphy)

well I guess stoked, Epic have been used a ton...

Wicked- use: Wow, that is wicked cool, means: super.

Wook- use: I can't stand wooks, means: Spun out hippie trash, more then just a hippie.

Got Wooked- use: Can't believe you got wooked last night, means: something bad happened to you ie. something got stolen, bumm drugs, somethng odd happened, you got arrest..

duder- use: Hey Duder, means: dude

So dont't I- use: Hey, I like purple, so don't I. means: I do too (if you break it down, it doesn't make sense "So do not I").

Hamboned, shitrocked, hamrocked, sideways- Wow, I got so (choose one hamboned, shitrocked, hamrocked, sideways), last night at the bar. Meaning drunk/wasted

Bone- Use hey lets go smoked a bone, means: Joint (I have never used this in my life but hear it all the time.)

How about poser?

As in, "75% of kids on NS are douchey posers who used to snowboard but sucked at it and switched to skiing because they did it when they were 7 and can at least stand at the top of the park in cool clothes with expensive skis on their feet and come up with an excuse as to why they aren't going to hit any features".

Janky- as in sketchy/squirrely, basically something that is so sketchy it can be compared to huffing shit fumes.

"both my brakes are gone so i am using lift ticket holders to keep my skis from flying down the hill"

That shit is Janky

derived from Jank'm- huffin shit fumes.

50% of highschoolers say they like it
