What do you guys want to see in News? Clearly ya'll don't want any interviews on people in the industry, so i;ve got to kill a few interviews with journalists, and some BADASS photographers.

Please note that getting in touch with certain athletes is really fucking hard...

What do you guys want to see???

Good interview with insight and meaningful questions and answers get responses, encourage engagement, and build readership.

I think you need to look beyond stock interview questions and look to tell a story, look to say something.

Scrapping stuff you are working on because "Clearly ya'll don't want any interviews on people in the industry" is a bad attitude.

you should repost videos and recent threads as news articles

This is downvoted but it seems to be the thing. Passing that Norwegian gaper trench thing off as News was ridiculous.

Already a thread on the topic, already on facebook, then "Hey let's post one sentence about something" in the news section.

What a joke.

Its against the rules to post just a video as a news article, thats what the video section is for and thats why no one does it.

I'd be really curious to hear more feedback from members about what kind of news they like reading.

I like more entertaining articles than what you'd consider typical news. Maybe a good way to describe it is like something you'd see in a blog? Something less formal and more based on your experience rather than spitting back word for word what happened. Stuff that you can relate to and stuff that makes you feel like you were actually there, doing whatever it was that was written about. Cy did a reallyyyyy good job with this when he'd post more. His Scholastic Summits article might be one of my favorite I've read on here.

It still happens a lot though. Same goes for spammy stuff. I could link to a bunch of stuff right now.

Yeah I see it a lot as well.

Maybe the news could be more sectioned up. Other wise what's ultimately going to win out is the bullshit that shouldn't be there, and people aren't going to bother posting news.

I mean this is an internet wide problem. People simply aren't reading quality articles in the quantity necessary to sustain the costs with ad revenue. Many sites make a ton of their money via posting horribly shitty clickbait.

That being said, we also have an open news system, which is allowing a few people to post ridiculously shitty articles. Downvoting them if you think the article is terrible should fix this.

We are also going to tighten up the whole news program next year, and look towards offering feeds of our content which have been curated by our top editorial staff. That way, there is still an open system for anyone to get their big break, but we also will control the flow a bit more so that you can be assured you get quality content when you want it.

Yeah I know. I just bitching.

People don't read anything over a few sentences. People don't care about profiles on people in the industry, that some mountain is doing something really cool with technology etc.

What gets shared is the clickbait. Everyone is doing it.

Interested to see what happens with the news side of things

I actually read something really interesting about the New York Times and their paywall. Everyone thought they were stupid because it would cut readership so much.

SOmething like only 18% of their total audience actually subscribes. They leave the clickbait shit up as marketing for the good stuff.

However, that 18% makes up over 50% of their digital revenue. Note: my numbers are going off of memory so someone might have better facts on this.

Pretty interesting what you can do if people are actually willing to pay for content.

I love interviews. Maybe others dont but I want to see more and more and more from all over the industry. Skiers, photographers, filmmakers, clothing business, ski business

We're going to try and do a ton more of these next year. Real key is how to get people to read 'em. :)
