Jesus Christ that's a lot of snow. It's just been windy and rainy in Auckland. I guess that's what the climate is like in your country though.
 
new zealand(originally Nova Zeelandia) is named after the dutch area/province called 'zeeland', so basically nothing big happened to 'the old one', it got a bit bigger due to land being reclaimed from the sea and the delta works, but it's still pretty much the same thing it was hundreds of years ago ....
