I am studying abroad in New Zealand this summer at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. I am trying to decide what I am going to do about my ski season since it will be winter down there. I dont know whether to get a season pass somewhere or if I am going to want to travel around the south island and see different hills all winter. Also I am struggling with the decision with if a car is necessary to get myself around or if i will be able to find rides. If anyone has been to the country and skied at some of the mountains I would love to hear input on what is good or bad or any advice you may have. thanks

Heya,

I was in nz last summer, I stayed in the town called Wanaka, and skied at Snowparks and Cardrona, snowparks is definitely worth going to the atmosphere was awesome and the park was great, cardrona was pretty shit that year but I heard it was good the years before. Wanaka is an awesome small town and the people are really nice. I hitchhiked up the mountain in the beginning and it went pretty well during the high season but there are A LOT of other hitchhikers too and it takes up a lot of time, and sometimes you don't get a ride at all, we ended up renting a car with a group of 3 people and just shared the cost and it worked out good :) but having a car is pretty important because there are no real buses or you end up paying 35 dollars a day. have fun!
