New york city

Me and my Husband are heading to New York City for our honeymoon! seems like a weird place to go i know, but we are from montana so ya. But anyways. anyone have any suggestions as to what bars we should hit up and such, or places we def need to go to. we want to make the fullest out of the five days we are there!

thanks :)

1) Congratulations.

2) What days/time of year are you coming? Lots of different things going on at different times of year.

3) Helicopter tour! For around $200 each, you can get a (short) tour of manhattan from above. Cheaper if you find a deal on groupon or livingsocial (I don't know how the rest of the country works, but those sites are the best way to find deals in NYC).

4) If not a helicopter tour, at least a double-decker bus tour. Or why not both? Even native new yorkers have fun seeing the city from a second floor view (because usually, new yorkers wouldn't be caught dead looking up).

5) Of course, you'll read about "top of the rock" and the empire state building observatory. Both are supposed to offer great views of the city, although I don't know anyway who's been.

6) Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. One of the few free things to do in the city. Or, even better, bike across. I did this for the first time yesterday, and all I could think about is "how have I never done this before?"

7) I see you snowboard. Any interest in skating/longboarding the city? Maybe seeing some iconic skate/snowboard shops?

Sorry for the long reply, I could go on for days and days about this city though. These are my top picks though.

Thanks!

and no worries on the long reply, ive spent a ton of time on google looking for stuff, and all ya get is payed for reviews and bs.

we are leaving this thursday, staying through wednesday and taking the train down to Washington DC for a few days as well.

the empire state building is on the list of shiz to do. and of course the 9/11 memorial, statue of liberty and all that jazz. our hotel is right next to central park so we got easy access to that as well haha. i never thought about the brooklyn bridge, thanks for the suggestion! and i bet a bus tour would be an awesome idea.

anyone know of a good sports bar, we are both big football fans (vikings) and they play on thursday, it would be neat to watch the game in a unique enviroment.

Bar None on 12th Street and 3rd Ave is a Vikings bar.

Did you get tickets in advance for the 9/11 memorial? Otherwise you probably wont be able to get in.

yikes, it's halloween weekend. Going to be a shit show of drunk slutty girls this weekend. You're probably going to want to avoid anything below 14th street on friday and saturday, unless puking drunk college kids is on your list of tourist sites.

As an alternative way to see the Statue of Liberty, take the Staten Island Ferry. It's free, and you get a pretty good view of the statue as you pass by. It won't stop at Ellis Island, but you can avoid the crowd and still snap a photo.

haha i guess i will pass on drunk slutty college girls.

i read about bar none, thinking about checkin it out. thats a bummer about the 9/11 memorial :( cuz we didnt get tickets. i guess i will try my luck!

thanks you guys for all the suggestions! im pretty pumped to say the least.

ok i live in new york city and its going to be impossible to go everywhere in only 5 days but these are the places you have to go to. Lavo NYC its a pretty dope club, lots of fun there. Carnegie Deli, best sandwiches in the world, and you should go see a show on broadway. even if you arent theater people (like me) its still something you should do. if you need anything else dont hesitate to PM me

Wow, terrible time to be in NYC, must be the worst (but exciting) honeymoon! The city is getting DESTRYOED right now with Sandy.

I hope your honeymoon wasn't a total disaster!

^I'd have to disagree about the double Decker buses....as touristy as it is, any time you go to a new city its great to do that your first day, helps you get your bearings in a new city and see much more than you could on foot walking the first few days,

Hey guys thanks for all the pointers and suggestions!

we survived our trip! although our days in nyc got cut short due to hurricane sandy.... we took one of the last amtrak trains leaving on sunday to head down to dc, where the storm was just a rainy windstorm.

it was an awesome and exciting time and made for a much more interesting honeymoon thats for sure...we checked out the 9/11 memorial, central park, time square, the chrysler building and the empire state building. had a lot of amazing food (carangie delli was bomb! and the pizza was unreal) went down and bar hopped at east village. and the taxis were terrifying haha...how do they not crash all the time??
