Vishnu has the hardest graphics in the game rn and its not even close

Surface had some super cool graphics on give'rs and royales (2019 and 2020). Seems like 2023 is just basic top sheets single colorish but idk

Because that art is representative of her culture and they also gave her a platform to talk about what it means to her and why it is so special. Not to mention the whole genocide thing and how the US will never be able to make up for that no matter what else happens in our future.

because they had a person of a certain ethnicity do the art? It's a weird time to be alive.

Sure but like, if I like to do art that isn't my culture that's ok too right?

Personally, I'd say so, I think the issue comes from companies lifting art that's clearly from a particular culture, usually indigenous and slapping it on stuff without giving any credit to the original artists.

The ig post is sick, I'm stoked for more indigenous representation in skiing, especially with land acknowledgments and the story behind the art. Vishnu fucking killed it with this one.

I'm kinda iffy on that tho tbh. Blatant plagiarism isn't rad but nobody owns a certain style

yes. yes they do.

That's like saying the beastie boys shouldn't rap, rza shouldn't have written the scale to kill bill, or gordon ramsey shouldn't make food outside of home country. Give me a fuckin break dude.

Does anyone have any idea when the topsheets for the keys will be released?

the previous topsheets order was Wet, wide, plus and keys

so I’m guessing it’s the same order

Beads look cool. But it comes off as the ultimate grifter move with the recent "issue" that Folsom went through.

This art isnt the same as some kid in grade 2 making shit with beads, this is different, its beadwork that specifically represents indigenous culture and if someone who is white jacks that style of art and plasters it everywhere its no wonder why they would be pissed, that same group of people took their land and killed them hundreds of years ago and continued to shit on them for much longer.

The beastie boys are aloud to rap because white people rapping isnt offensive to black ppl, but them saying the “N” word is, and its no wonder why. Same with indigenous art. I would be pretty pissed too if someone killed my family and then make a ski edit with the same song I used lol.

The problem gets complicated nowadays where everyone is offended by everything and hopefully people are logical enough to determine what should be and what shouldn’t be aloud to say. Heres a perfect example, I could say wop all I want even though its an offensive slur because my race didn’t go out and murder Italians but the minute I say Ni—

Hating on a race of people for the actions of their ancestors is wack af tho. Nobody gets to choose what happened before they were born.

My guess is its a coincidence, just based off the Artist saying it took her 3 months to do the piece, so logically she was commissioned in January or earlier.

The timing is def insane tho

I agree but since the things that took place back then have affected the way those cultures live today (mostly the setbacks financially) they still see us as the enemy even tho ppl like me and you clearly arent the enemy. Don’t get me wrong theres tons of ppl from all these cultures that use it too much as a crutch for their shitty lives but at the same time, had the past not have happened like that they would almost certainly be way more financially stable so. We just need to accept the fact that thats how it is and a lot like how its unfair to us to be blamed for the past its very unfair for them to be treated that way in the first place. Long distance payback I guess.

This isn’t exactly ancient history… The last residential school in Canada didn’t close until like ‘97. Native culture is entirely oral which is why the schools were so destructive. This isn’t a simple case of taking another person’s art style, it’s directly representative of a culture that was genocided by our governments less that 50 years ago

The ship sailed (no pun intended) on colonialization and assimilation practices of native peoples long before 1972...

Good on the people over at Vishnu for using an artist here, paying that artist, and giving proper credit to that artist for their work. So many companies in not just this industry but many product based industries just rip artwork that has cultural ties without giving any sort of proper credit. Which is where the problem lies.

Oh and in regards to those Reckoners...haven't you heard - the low rise jeans and shitty album art from the 2000s is hot right now. :)

Listen man if there's a good reason to segregate who can do what art I'm all ears. But I haven't heard one yet, just npc's slingin downvotes like it's an argument.

i think whoever rides these boards should seriously consider learning at least few words/phrases in the original language of the artist. i'm clearly ignorant of the matter (or else i'd type those words right here ________)

i think each individual must create understanding for themself by learning stories+ideas that are not directly known thru one's personal heritage. however, i say there is a fine line between appreciating and honoring humanity's endangered traditions and its unavoidable counterpart of sensationalizing a certain group/art-form for self-serving reasons. the Vishnu team holds responsibility in that regard and i'm sure we will see the fruits of their intentions+efforts.

I'm actually with you on this

Sounds like someone took notes from JSkis.
