hey im looking to buy a new camera soon but i dont realy know anything about them so here what i want. i want a SLR for less than 500 bucks so what do you guys think i should get. thanks alot

well for under 500 you can probably get a rebel xs or xti or maybe a 30d but that's unlikely, if you're pretty new to photography go with a rebel, they're great for bridging the gap between a point and shoot and a full out manual camera. or you could get a 30d which is not an entry level camera but is better

the best question you could have asked, ha yea DSLR or SLR (digital or film- 35mm) for film check craigslist, also able to check it for digitals sometimes, be careful, theres plenty of good advice on here, but also stop into a local camera specialty store, not fucking walmart, target, best buy, a camera specific store and see what they tell you, tell them your price range first thing, and then get back to us, also listen to the people who post in your thread (for the most part) they are wise

what do you want to use it for? NS cant read your mind, you have to give some info.
also, before you buy online (if you choose to)- if you think you have found an awesome deal, you have probably found a scam website. check the website on resellerratings.com before you buy anything from there

if you want a cheap camera find out what you want and then look in the buy/sell forum on www.fredmiranda.com

if it's your first camera i would go digital, it will teach you to be a good photographer quicker than using a film camera. but alot of people think you should start with film... it's kinda all personal preference but if you go digital stick with canon, great lenses. now the eternal beginners digital photography question, new entry level body or used mid level body.

^sticking with canon is purely opinion... check out nikon and canon and any other companies, and see what camera fits you best. nikon lenses are generally a little more expensive (which is why i assume you suggested to stick to canon), but you usually will use lenses for a long time so its worth it if you will use it.
people usually choose nikon or canon b/c of the amount of lenses and support available for their cameras.

haha ok im sry i want a DSLR and i also found these on ebay in my price range the nikon d40, Olympus E-520 the nikon d60 or the pentax k2000. would any of these be better? thanks alot for the help.

oh also i am going to be using it for taking some ski pics and just some like lifestyle and nature pics.

i'd say the d60 is your best choice if you're willing to pay for it. out of all of those cameras, nikon will have the most support and lenses.

nikon lenses are absloutly not more expensive than canon lenses. it is opinion so you're right he should see what fits and what he likes using.

stick with either canon or nikon, olympus, sony, etc. just do not stand up to nikon and canon image quality, lens selection, durability, and just general build quality.

obviously ebay and like forums or whatever, but also check out KEH.com. its a site for people to sell used gear. some good deals on there

www.fredmiranda.com the buy/sell forum
