New searchbar

just when i didn't think the searchbar could get any worse, it did. oh well, i'm sure it's only temporary. right? i really hope so...
 
as soon as i saw the little google logo in it, i knwo everything was fucked. i llike the OLD one 1000000000x better. why would NS do this in the first place?
 
Uhm yeah from what i can see its stupid, if we wanna google something we'll GOOGLE IT! I'm pretty sure this'll be fixed but the least they could do is put a search option under forums.
 
hit advanced search, right beside the search button. it takes you to the old search bar

also is it just me or does the google one not fit on the page properly..
 
I do not like the new searchbar, sam I am. It doesn't show the title of the thread. Old one =waaaay better. Google= Cat doody
 
i know i made a thread about making the search bar better but i dont like this. thanks for trying but no.
 
Old searchbar is terrible.

The new google one has some flaws.

Overall, you will find your info better with the new search.
 
I beg to differ.

I decided to compare results searching for ON3P using both search options.

The problem with that search alone, is that it picks up peoples signatures with ON3P in it.

It needs work for sure, no giant deal cause I imagine that there is bugs and fixes that can be employed to make the search find more relative results.
 
I haven't messed around with the new search bar much but it is super annoying that it does not display the Thread Titles when you get your search results.
 
This is only because of the way newschoolers was built before. Actually because of this we found out that the site used to be almost completely inaccessible from google! All you'd ever see was titles like that. We've requested a re-indexing by google, so that the thread titles would be in there, but that will take a bit of time before its complete.

If the thread titles were displayed in that new search, do you guys think that it would be more helpful?

 
So, essentially we still won't find info either way.

The old searchabr sucked because it was too vague as the title of the thread had to be what you searched for.

The new searchbar sucks because it is too precise and finds anything with that word in it.
 
worddd. prolly not tho on the signatures cuz its part of your post, even though its technically a 'signature'.
 
I'd like to see the old bar as the stock searchbar. The google bar should be under advanced search. It seems like it would work better because with the old bar you are getting exact threads but with the google youre getting results from within threads that may not have a related title. old=basic newgoogle=advanced and pain in the ass to find exact threads
 
totally. i tried a search for reggae, and it gave me tons of peoples profiles where they have reggae listed as a musical interest. its kind of hard to wade through 8 pages of search results.
 
I think the google search has potential, but we'll need to modify it a bit so that it ignores signatures and such. Its better than the old one that needed exact spellings and phrases.
 
it fuckin sucks usually i dont reallycare about the changes or even think about complaiing but the new search bar sucks
 
If you go into your user options, you can select a slower connection speed, which will remove some of the fancy image things like the background, which will allow the site to load faster.
 
id be happier if you put the old one back and leave it until the google one works. because right now its so bad i dont even bother searching anymore
