iv got a dell precision and love it but my gf has an iphone 11 and had taken a ton of videos she's going to edit and ease of syncing to mac is needed.

My question is what macbook would you suggest for someone who would being using primarily lightroom, premier pro and music. We have a canon 6dmkii for video files so nothing crazy.

Just use a cloud service to transfer videos, icloud, drive, dropbox, basically pick the one you like, spend $10/mo for 1tb of storage and don't waste your money on a macbook.

Was cruising thru and saw this, just picked up a MacBook Air that was a referb. and it works really well. Its the latest model one but a 2018 so w the discount of a referb it was 600$ Runs premier, Lightroom, etc extremely well so if you're still interested in it id go the referb route. Just make sure you read into who is referring the laptop and their customer reviews.

From what I've read online the newer MBs are harder to upgrade with some sodered down parts...i've owned a 2012 MB since 2014, upgraded ram and put in two WD SSD's by replacing disc drive with one. Really speeds up performance and rendering time and can run FCPX no problem in 4k timeline. Assuming it stacks up relative to the current lower level macbook air. I would definitely consider buying refurb down the road when the time comes.

if you're just buying it for the ease of syncing to a mac, that's kinda dumb. But generally if you're in the market for a new laptop the M1 macbooks are by far the best deal on the market rn, the performance and battery life is unreal and the cheapest 8gb air is all you're going to need.

the m1 laptops are garbage, you can't even get more than 16gb of ram, its made for casuals not professionals.

they're also still very overpriced, if you're just editing phone clips and surfing the internet, you can spend $800 on windows laptop thats just as good as a mbp for 1/2 the price.

This is all tru. I was using the pixel 4a for a few months, miles a head of my 6s and enjoyed it. Ended up switching back because of the "apple ecosystem". It's genius how integrative each piece of tech is and is ultimately what lead me to switch back. Kind of similar to using native camera gear idk

Im still blown away by how many of my late 20s early 30s friends still shit on me for not having imessage, its like really? You guys are this addicted to the apple ecosystem that they still think having green text is bad. Android has no difference, because its not trying alienate apple users, apple literally made non-apple texts look really bad so you hate it, and you can't change it. It's genius, infuriating, but in the end it's not worth getting worked up about, which I do often.

bullshit, have you actually checked them out? take it from a windows/android guy who's been looking into it for the past couple of days. The new apple silicon is miles ahead of anything intel have been doing and amd is playing catch up. And the new macs are seriously great value atm. They are insanely efficient (amazing battery life) and can handle pretty much anything you could reasonably throw at them. I'll leave a couple of links here for you to check out if you want (seriously do).

For your $800 you could get a refurbished 8gb air and edit all your 4k 4:2:2 10bit or h.265 vids no problem.

Idk man...I know peeps that edit on airs in 1080p and literally computer almost blows up..unfortunately you gotta put some cash into the newer Apple products to get what the older ones couldn’t offer. Right outa the box they are flawless but over time they really degrade and lose performance imo. Hard for users to upgrade parts too

excuse me what? I know you're not an apple guy but saying its "garbage" is highly questionable, nobody can currently compete w/ the performance per watt of M1. It's even more impressive that its an entry level chip thrown in the lowest end hardware, yet it still punches above most 11th gen intel chips up until the highest end mobile i9s, sipping a fraction of the power

when the actual MBPs like the 16", and professional iMac, are replaced w/ apple silicon, intel will be left even further in the dust...

and to answer OP, get an M1 Mac

you can't have more than 16gb of ram in an m1 mac, you know I don't think its literal trash but I'm just completely out on any apple products.

And intel will be completely fine without apple, they have bigger worries like AMD.

Intel might not be fine with the rate AMD is going :P

wydm? the next gen of intel chips are getting a bunch of hype, they're catching back up to AMDs speeds/status. I'll be an intel guy for life but I understand that many people like AMD, at least its windows?

Intel has spent the last 15 or more years charging more for marginal gains and maintaining the 4 core norm. AMD finally caught back up and now offers more performance in pretty much every perceivable metric ( core count, clock speed, instructions per clock, etc)for less money. Even on the server side, their relatively new line of server cpus vastly outclass zeons for less money as well. That combined with the fact that it's cheaper to get an AMD mobo with the features you want (b550 or x470) than it is to get an intel mobo with the same features. I'm not a fanboy of either red or blue, I built a desktop finally that's ryzen based, but all my current laptops for work and play are intel (im jealous of the ryzen mobile chips though :( ).

I would recommend at least 16Gb ram if you want to edit videos. So therefore the macbook will be a little bit more expensive. Maybe consider in buying a pc, where you can set up the components as you like.

I work on a lenovo laptop with 16gb ram, i7 processor, but a shitty radeon graphics card, but this one costed me about 1000€, which is cheap compared to a macbook with a similar setting
