My mac shat the bed and I am in desperate need of a new laptop/desktop soon. Basically gonna be used for Lightroom/photoshop/music/Netflix. Done a little browsing myself. Looking to keep it sub 750$ if possible.

Thanks!

I finally ditched Apple, and I'm stoked.

I ended up with this (more or less) and have been super happy.

I think first you need to decide what specs are important to you.

For me it was:

At least UHD, if not 4k

Quad core

16GB RAM

SSD

Something like this will be far more computer than you get get for that price in a Mac

From what I've heard, Adobe is finally working to upgrade Lightroom to make it more efficient and powerful. This means it will likely be able to utilize the power of your computer better. I'd recommend something with a Quad Core processor, at least 16gb of RAM, decent GPU (Dedicated, not the Intel IRIS graphics) and a decent sized SSD (I have a 250gb SSD in my MBP and it's not enough usually, even though I use externals it's full of shit and LR always takes up a bunch of space on it).

I would look into maybe a 1 generation old Dell XPS or Inspiron gaming series. Another good source of budget power is Lenovos line of gaming laptops (used to be the y500, not sure what they call them now). I recently bought an XPS 15 and I am loving it for any kind of video editing/content creation/gaming etc.

as everyone said:

4 core processor (i7 if intel)

8+gb of RAM

dedicated graphics

UHD screen (or something with accurate color) for editing

SSDs help a lot too in making lightroom run smoothly.
