NEW Karma system!

Doug, only 6 of the your and other's 7 digits show up on the main forum page. So you only have 900 000 points instead of 9 000 000 points...
 
I agree 100% and have tried like many others before to get something like this going.
 
Bump, i would like to know this as well... im at like 13,000ish or something and i was at like 51 with the old karma system.. so im kinda going off of that right now as a balance point..
 
hmm, i think it wouldve made more sense to try and make the system out of 100 work. these numbers are so big and spread out they just seem arbitrary.

but i also maintain that karma is the lamest thing ever, the idea that i should care how kids on here e-rate me is just kinda presumptuous
 
this is where i dont understand the new system because i was at 52 now i have nearly 3 times as much karma as you do tj
 
Before the change user ratings weren't taking affect, now they are. you apparently have a lot more positive ratings and have contributed more content to the site. the scores will balance out over time, just remember to give people +points and -points when you deem appropriate.
 
aww man, no one thinks im positive.. hahah naw it makes sence.. but that is still a huge differenct from the old system.. i guess it will just be as simple as getting use to.
 
do people see that youve given them a good karma rating? otherwise id have to say no homo every time i do it, or just not do it at all
 
im gettin kind of screwed it think...ive been on for a few years, and i havent posted a ton or put up pictures or videos,which is probably why im so low, but i just saw a guy who has been a member for a day and who had about ten times as many karma points as me
 
There is one major problem.

If somebody gets a lot of 7/10 votes, he has fairly high karma.

If I now see a post, which is good and i rate this member a 6/10 because he had one good post, his Karma gets downed, because my rating is below the average.

It would be better to add Karma Points for every vote over 5, and to lower Karma Points for every Vote under 5.

If a member gets a 10 he'll get more points than if he gets a 6. Though he still gets points with a 6.

If I rate a member 2 or more times ( lets say from a 8 to a 6) his Karma will get lowered, due to a lower ranking than before.

I hope this is understandable. I am german...
 
^ i thought the karma of the one, that I rate gets up, if I rate more than 5, and gets down if its lower than 5? - But if it is like you said, the whole system is a little bit to complex in my eyes. I dont get it anymore?!
 
wow, i just got back on after a while away from ns and was completly freaked out by this.

it seems to be working well though and is deff much more responsive to member input
