Do you know where I could find some solid stats on what the update is going to hold other than rumors? I'm looking into a somewhat similar setup to yours, but want to see what is to come before I make any purchases.

No actually it's mine. It was given to me as a gift.

We bought it from tekserve in NY for $900

Good deal.

Dont think you can with an imac. With this versions, you can use 3rd party ram. But as shown in the new rMBP, apple is making it so you cannot do anything yourself really. You have to get hd/ram upgrades directly from them, and they rape you on the price.

Oh that sucks. Yeah i heard the ram on the new macbook pro retina is soldered in also (can't upgrade it). You could always get a PC and then install mac os into it (hackintosh). I heard that the imacs have crappy laptop graphics cards instead of the actual desktop gpus (since they have to squeeze the gpu into the small casing).

Yeah but from what i hear, hackintosh can be a huge bitch sometimes. Some people have problems with it and some dont.

yep...

I just maxed it out and sucked it up... can't do anything with the computer post buying it.

How old is the unit and what is the condition? Also do you have any pictures? I MIGHT be interested, but still looking to get some concrete information on the iMac update coming before I make a decision.

Honestly, don't get an iMac. They're rediculously overpriced and have much lower performance and a good desktop build. You can probably fit a tower under your desk or whatever your using. just my 2 cents.

Honestly, for someone looking for a great monitor, high reliability, AND OSX will obviously justify the price for one of these.

that only seems fast when you're talking about macs. for a lot of things those speeds are necessary
