New freeride ski store

Hey, I'm doing research for a entrepreneur project at university, and was wondering how many of you guys would (or would not, and why) want a new freeride ski store in Calgary

What brands would you want us to carry for clothes/outerwear/skis/etc? Are there any "core" skiing brands that aren't being represented in calgary? Heard of any new up-and-coming companies (eg Prior) in the freeride market?

What are other stores doing poorly or not doing at all (tune-ups, customers service, selection etc) that you would like to see in our shop?

Any other comments you have would be great.

Also, If there was a new freeride ski store in calgary, would you:

1) Never go there

2) Check it out, but stick with buying from your old shop

3) Buy some stuff there, and some at your old shop

4) Buy most things there

Thanks!

if there was a new shop i would definately check it out and compare it to the other shops in calgary, right now the best shop in town is fresh so naturallu i would compare the new store to fresh, i would like to see some new brands like libtech skis(just to see what they are like) and then all the main brands like line ,rossi, armada, dynastar, 4frnt, k2, and some other newer brands like 9th ward, and liberty, there would also have to be a good selection of outer wear and accessories, it would also be nice to have a shop that could get every type of brand into its store, like a huge order cataloge, so virtually every freeskiing product could be at your fingertips, hope that helps!

I would probley suport a new shop in Calgary, but they would have some hard competition with fresh for sure.

What first comes to mind with this is market saturation. Now I'm all for competition, but I just dont think there is a big enough market for Calgary. What may instead end up happening is that two stores, mamely Fresh and this potential new one, would share the exact same market and both end up going under. I personally think it might be a better idea to set up shop somewhere else.

i would like to see a new freestyle specific shop in calgary besides fresh to shake it up a bit, fresh is great and ol but you get my drift. id like to see a shop that supports the smaller companies like 9thward, enom, libtech, defekt (whats up with them anyhow?) and projekt...the newer stuff for up and coming companies trying to make it in the big time. the store would also need the good ol siver, quicksilver, oakley outerwear with armada, salomon, rossi, k2 and maybe even sell head, fresh doesnt...this sounds like a cool idea, glad i could help

you didnt help, your comments are fucken useless.

the next logical step for someone looking to open a new store would be to blend snowboarding and ski shit into one store. ski cellar does it, but the cellar is fucken lame. If you could set up a shop like mission or source or fresh, with ski gear and snowboard gear and then for the summers have some skate shit and bike stuff you'd be set.

I would definatly check it out and probably support it. Customer service is key. Just be nice to people and they will like the store. Carry some of the brands that fresh doesnt carry like Rossi and Head and a smaller brand or 2 like liberty and 9th ward. Then get the main brands like Line Armada K2 and Salomon. Pretty much for outerwear just get oakley siver orage and quicksilver and have lots of movies in stock. Ive been to fresh to get TBC so many times and they never have it. Oh ya and have joysticks

Honestly, come to Edmonton. The only ski stores here are for middle aged retirees and racers. No other stores do anything to support skiing so there would be tons of opportunites to create competitions and promos.

Rabbit has the best rail set up in Alberta and the snowboarders are absolutely gnarly. We just need a shop here to push the skiers into that direction as well.

Carry only 'core' brands. Armada, 4FRNT, Liberty, 9thward, Libtech. I'd totally respect a shop that did something like that.

Make it Ski/Snowboard stuff so we can buy cooler outerware than skiier clothes. The ski and snowboard type shop could mean more up-front money, but everyone knows their are more snowboarders than skiers, so might as-well cater to them both and make some extra scrilla (scrilla = money). And Yes, all the good companies, no bunk ones. Another reason to make it ski/snowboard is so you could get better brand-names like Volcom, Liftime, Grenade, I dont know whatever else is hip. Just so we (by "we" I mean "I") dont have to buy Billabong or Quicksilver or Hurley anymore.

For me, I would check out the shop. If it's rad, then I would go thur occasionally, if it's bunk but a fun place to hang I would be thur all the time. If I straight up don't like it than yeah. But I think it would be neat to have another store. But yeah, make it ski/snowboard with good brands. Then it has some potential to become one of the few good stores that sell's both.

Thats my 4 cents.

3) Buy some stuff there, and some at your old shop

I'd personally think it'd be a waste as calgary has alot of ski shops and fresh is already there. The only thing fresh doesn't do well is mounting, they don't understand the difference between true and core center. Also they don't sell wax and some smaller companies skis(liberty, ninthward).

I truly think that the one and only way a freeride ski store will be very successful is for htem to carry the widestmarket of skis they can from black diamond to armada.

heres a whole other spin on things guys...say, theoretically, you partner up with Fresh. somehow sweet tal them into selling their shop...pool money and resources together into putting together a bigger and better shop that plays host to the major freestyle brands everyone likes (armada, line, 4frnt, k2, salomon etc etc...) but also carry brands that are less common in wide varieties of shops (k2, rossi, fischer, liberty, 9th ward...)

everybodies big idea of having one HUGE shop that sells snowboard AND ski gear and equipment is by far the best way to go for business period. think about it...a LOT of skiers buy snowboard outerwear, therefore, if you carry that end of the spectrum you will make huge profit in outerwear...but on the other hand you don't make a LOT of money selling only snowboard stuff so throw in all the ski stuff and you're set (plus, a lot of ski brands share major snowboard brands so there you go again!!)

as for other things...having a fully operational and functioning tech. and repair shop is ESSENTIAL!!!! thats how Fresh could make a SHITLOAD more money. they have all th eknow how and expertise to do it, just not enough staff or room to do it.

by carrying a larger spread array of equipment and gear you are also able to trace that into the summer because a LOT of the board companies follow into the summer with apparel and some with equipment.

the whole idea of merging with another big name in the game is ideal as hell. Fresh loses a lot of business to board shops and ski cellar mainly because of their lack of "cool" gear and tech. services...add both to a shop and you will most likely be making FAR more money than mission, source, or ski cellar

hope i may have led you down another idea route that can possibly help out...

if you have the power, influence, and motivation to do it...talk to steve, make a good impression and propose the fuckin idea cuz it would be INSAAAAAAAAAAAANE

Just shut up and stop posting on NS. You have never EVER had a single useful post. and no one wants to read your garbage.

"Ma fucka"??? Oh my god, just go away.

I dont like fresh because if they were a True freestyle/freeride store they would carry a bigger range of park skis. it may be a bit difficult to carry all of them but not carrying rossi and vokel... common. i think salomon has some sorta hold on them....

ud have a hard time with fresh as ur comp

but

skis:K2, Armada, Salomon, Rossignol, Dynastar, Atomic, Line maybe 4frnt

Accesories: Oakley and what ever

Fresh would probably kick their ass but Rossi, Armada, Line , K2, Salomon, 4FRNT, Liberty, Dynastar, Atomic etc

im pretty sure reason why fresh doesnt carry certain skis is because other shops in calgary have some sort of deal with the skis companies that they can sell there shit but no other shop can. it used to be like that with ski cellar i think back in the day. I am just kinda guessing here. I personally like fresh the way it is. It would be sick if they carried volkl, they have some progessivley fat skis coming out. but rossi can stay out.

fresh is the worst dstore in the world when it comes to skis sure u might get a deal, but if they haven't drilled right through your skis u would say that lame little sagment hoser alut

well i like fresh, they treat me good and are always nice, and also i was talking to one of the guys who worked there and i think he sadi something about fresh carrying rossi next year along with some other new things, sounds pretty cool

yeah that would be sick ! i would check it out. but ya i would carry some of the lower brand skis like ninth ward and liberty then get rossignol and head cuz other stores like fresh dont carry em. then get armada and k2 and salomon and dynastar !
