I dont think this is a repost but the new final cut pro x is being released around june!
put all your findings in this thread im still looking for more information on it.

Honestly, this looks horrible. The iMovie layout has far less dexterity than the current FCP layout. Also, no professional ever wants to hear the words "automatic" advertised when it comes to filmmaking. "Automatic" is just a pseudonym for less control.
 
i know it's possible, but i would be a little too on edge when getting a cracked version for something that expensive. as an experienced editor could you explain how you feel that it's a downgrade? i have actually never been hands on with fcp but i just liked some of the features they added and the whole product seems to have an intuitive feel lacking from programs i've experienced.
 
FCP seems to be getting worse with each upgrade... Still it would be nice compared to editing with windows movie haha.
 
Final Cut basically is the standard for professional editing. This is certainly no imovie or an advanced imovie for that. Some of the new features are absolutely brilliant and will cut down post-production workflow tremendously.
Of course, I'm sure tons of people on here will bash final cut X saying "it's just a better version of imovie". But to the serious editor who does more than just "ski edits", this is by far a huge advancement in professional editing.
 
I think it's funny how everyone is basing their judgement off a keynote video. Wouldn't you want to try something out before making a decision on whether or not it's a good product? Nooo, that doesn't make any sense.
 
I can't speak for others, but I've been stoked on a new FCP for awhile now and i was hoping to be really stoked when this shit came out and other than the rendering thing, im not stoked.
 
Ya only the no rendering seems to be a big upgrade from 7, which I already have a program to get around this....I'll stick with mine till It crashes on me again then steal this one...

Cant remember the exact link to the download I used, but this is the program....you log your clips you want to edit then "batch" them in the program....make sure you get your settings right and send them to a new folder/destination....Might be some tutorials or steps on the link havnt really looked just figured I'd pass it on since rendering is the BIGGEST pain in the ass and half the editing time.

Once you have the new clips there will be no need to render :)

 
Unless you don't do anything to your clips, your "method of getting around it" isn't at all, everyone creates the correct format clips to edit with, but when you actually edit in a timeline, rending is needed 90% of the time.
 
Its saves me time, I just file them thru during one of my classes then im good to go...had little rendering after this process...
 
Well i go through a process every time i import clips to make them edit friendly too, everyone does. But even simple color correction calls for rendering.
 
im stoked for live time rendering like adobe, i'm getting sick of rendering every 5 seconds making text
 
What are you doing that requires rendering? I can virtually make a project and only have to render once, which occurs when I import my timelin from Color and have to render the grades (only takes a couple minutes). That's it.

I honestly don't have a problem with FCP's rendering system at all. I can't even see myself utilizing native h.264 support since I prefer everything in pro res anyway.
 
not having to render all the time would be sick. FCP7 looked alot sicker then this, if they just added that to 7 it would be better
 
color correcting is by far the worst, if you filmed on a cloudy day with shit light your fucked....have to correct every damn clip and render. Part of the process i guess

and i dont know why people are bitching about rendering...i render once...when i put the song in the time line and maybe if some crazy transition gets used? I am stoked to see how the work flow is and what has been improved on
 
i know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but it look like shit. looks exactly like imovie (POS program), good ol' apple "aesthetically pleasing", and it just kind of looks childish. like others have said, i hardly render at all when i edit; only to get the few transitions i do use to look right, or text that comes up twice in an edit. i'm kind of new at color correcting and shit (only been working with FCP for about a month) but still, you could color correct one at a time in the viewer and render the whole thing at the same time. the $299 price tag as well seems like an indicator that it isn't anything special. you get what you pay for.

and all the automatic stuff isn't good, like others said, it's simply less control. when do you see a professional photographer put their cameras on auto and click the shutter button a bunch of times? the pictures (or video, in this case) aren't going to come out nearly as well as you'd want them.

but i guess we'll see when it comes out.
 
wouldn't they probably have manual options still though? couldn't you just use auto options if it's convenient or manual options if you desire more control?
 
I am educated, I've used both programs, I just prefer Sony and Adobe by FAR over Apple, FCP may be the shit for some people, but it didn't click with me.

inb4 FCP is the best.
 
the color match is cool but kinda just makes it too easy and the file organization is basically the same as markets just a little different. A lot of the features are things you can do now, X just makes it easier to do with more control.
 
holy shit that looks so sick! and only 299! makes me consider actualy buying it so I can have all of the support, updates... and that timeline looks amazing! it looks like it will take a lot of getting used to though.

 
I thought it was going to have an iMovie timeline? That new timeline looks amazing. I love how the keyframing is built in, and how the rest of the timeline doesn't get effected when you edit things at the beginning.

Also, having guides and power masks in FCP looks amazing.
