New Direction for HipHop

Ill MInd of Hopsin 5 by hopsin and Same Love by Macklemore both dropped today. Both are great songs but they don't really fit the stereotype of what rap is about. Ill Mind is denouncing young slutty girls, wanna be gangsters and the average rapper, and Same Love is about supporting gay rights. Neither Hopsin nor Macklemore are the biggest things in rap right now, but they could be within a few years. So is hip hop moving in a new direction?

neither one of them defines hiphop. they both have somewhat original styles and both represent different outlets of hiphop, but neither define it as a whole.

but what would you call macklemore then if not hip hop?

You can't make new genre for every artist..
