New clothing brand im working on...

So i've been working on a clothing brand over the summer and we have just launched the website. Basically im just looking for some general feedback on the brand, the designs and the website.

I know the website is very simple at the moment and there are a few little issue. Do you think it would be worth paying a website designer to do it? We've found that web builders are a little basic.

This is the fb page: https://www.facebook.com/lostandwild

This is the website: http://www.lostandwild.com/index.html

Thanks

While I like the look of the clothing, what makes you unique? There are a thousand other clothing companies out there doing this. What do you bring to the table?

I think when it comes to clothing it is very difficult to come up with something unique. Our brand may not be totally unique but there aren't a huge number of animal illustrations of our kind out there. We also sell our clothes at a very competitive price and the clothing itself is of very good quality, we have taken a lot of time to source good quality and not just cheap and poor quality sweaters and tees. So I think what we bring to the table is affordable, stylish (we hope you will agree!) and good quality clothing aimed at the student market.

At the moment just the general public, but we are looking into producing some tall sweaters in the future. Do you think our designs would work well on tall clothing?

your "about us" section needs a lot of work. you have a statement that every start up company has used in the past as your whole section. make it unique. actually tell a little about the company so people know what they're supporting.

the designs are cool. I'm a little more lost about the name than wild about it. If you're wild, you're not lost. Or are these just endangered species (grey wolf/grizzly)?

I like your clothing.

That being said, you guys have a lot of work to do.

First of all, what the hell did this guy sit in?

His shorts are disgusting. Not something you want in your lookbook. Also, since he's not facing the camera, why not put a hoodie on him with a logo on the back of it? I can't even tell if he's wearing your brand or not.

This photo also bothers me. This girl has her hair covering half of your logo. People want to be able to see what's on the hoodie that they're buying.

In my opinion you should also have photos of the product by itself, without people wearing it.

Even though I'm a little bitch about the things above, I truly do like the designs and text printed on your clothing. I hope the best for your company!

Thanks for the feedback, we certainly have some work to do, we haven't really had a proper photo shoot yet, the few shots we have got were taken when we were filming for a lookbook edit.

Yes I know, so many clothing brands out there, but we have some nice designs and we are at university with some time on our hands and it doesn't cost a lot to set up so why not. If we only break even, at least we had some fun doing it.

I mean the clothing is pretty played at this point, everybody it seems has started one to go with the thousands of other ones out there already.

That said if you want to take a shot go for it. The idea for a clothing company is pretty played but that doesn't mean there haven't been new clothing companies that have broken through from nothing recently. It just means you have to do things right and get lucky.

Find your target audience and work that shit. If your target audience likes you and is wearing/ buying your shit, it doesn't matter that much what anyone else thinks.

You def have to give people a reason to buy your stuff or even notice you though. With how saturated the world is with these small clothing companies, why should somebody buy your shirt vs. another?

If you want to hit the ski world, get some good people wearing it. Send some free shit to hook up contests. Maybe even set up your own or help run some of the smaller contests in your region.

Idk. It won't be easy, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. If this is something you want, and really believe in than go for it. I'm not saying if you put in hard work it's going to pay off, but fuck it, if you want it then take a shot at it.

what is the story behind the name?

like why should i buy into 'lost and wild', what does that mean?

Well basically myself and two friends were talking about how it would be fun to set up a clothing brand and university would be a pretty good place to do it. We talked about how we liked a few artists animal illustrations and also noted that very few clothing brands were doing animal illustrations at the moment. My friends Jesse then mentioned that he had done a lot of fine art at school and that one of his pieces (of a bear) had won an award. We had the sorts of designs that we wanted to do but needed a name. I though it would be good if the name came from my friend Lucy's initials, who is the main financial backer. I came up with lost and she suggested wild as the second word.

We thought that the name tied nicely into the designs as, some of the animals depicted are dieing out (or being lost) and they are of course wild animals.

Without sounding too pretentious, at my current stage in life, being at university, I can do what I want with no one telling me I have to work or get a job, you can go "wild" (sounds lame i know but you get the point) at uni and have fun.

I cant say a ton about the clothing as it is far from my area of expertise, but I think I can take a look at the Logo you have used on the site/FB page.

I get the feel you're going for with the ribbon and circle I just think that it could be better refined. I am not too sure what program you used to create this but I think having it done up in a vector format would be really helpful to eliminate the rough pixel look to the edges. In addition to this I would look at the tracking of the text "Lost & Wild", I am not sure if you intended to have so much separation between each section of the name, but I feel some additional space (+10 or +20 tracking?) in the text would lighten it up a bit and provide a bit more unity to the name. Lastly The image behind the ribbon, I am not too sure what it is meant to be? My first thought was a shield, but I now think it may be a wolf's head silhouette due to the furry look on the edge.

Again, I really think this logo needs to be done up in Illustrator or some other vector based program to eliminate the jagged pixel look everything seems to have. I think it could be a pretty nice logo, it just needs some polishing and a bit of refinement.

In regards to the website, there is still a lot of work to be done, I'd recommend taking a look at your CSS and trying to get all the text sized figured out, Footer text can be quite a but smaller than headline text, body copy can be smaller with a bit more leading. I also see the "View Basket" button as sitting over top of your navigation bar, this can probably be fixed with some positioning commands if nothing else. The last thing I'll say is please find some proper Facebook and Twitter icons, using distorted images really brings down the look of the site and does not look professional at all.

Good feedback on the logo-- I agree. I would just like to add as well that the silhouette looks like a taxidermy mount...which doesn't jive well with the whole endangered animal aspect.
