New Car Ideas

Was driving home bout 2 weeks ago and got in a wreck. (No I was not on any substance) and to make a long story short my Honda CR-V is done for. So I was wondering if anyone had some ideas on a good car that is good for driving to the mountains looks ok and gets good gas mileage. People keep pressing the Subaru’s so I was wondering if you all feel the same or if something is better.

Used police Tahoe. You can get a 2012 with 100k miles and 4wd for $10k. I’ve put 30k miles on mine in a year and a half and I’ve only done oil changes and brakes. They romp in the snow with the right tires and drive great on the highway.

absolutely love my volkswagen alltrack, it's like an outback but actually fun to drive ;)

Just finished my first weekend driving the Alltrack in deep snow and it shreds, made it up a pretty gnarly hill where all types of rigs where sliding into the snowballs. Also had occasion to sleep in it, two adults and two children, it wasn't great but it worked.

I don't know what OPs budget is like?

Subies don't get very good fuel mileage, I averaged 16-17 in my 2010 WRX, FWIW.

No turbo engine sports car is going to get good mileage. Also Subaru mileage improved on all models after 2012. WRX now gets low 20's mpg and my 2013 Impreza gets 28/37. Still not as good as the civic or mazda 3 that are boasting 30+/40+ these days, but it's the most fuel efficient awd car that isn't a hybrid.

Yeah I know, but the wrx is just a tarted up econobox, only a sports car in the broadest sense of the term. The horizontally opposed four-cylinder is an inefficient platform to start and most of the recent boost in economy can be attributed to soul-sucking cvt.

I'm not saying wrx is a bad choice just pointing out what falls out of OP's criteria.

Ya. Probably the OG ski bum wagon

I been looking on Craiglist and have been seeing some good deals on some typical OG ski bum wagons. I might check one out and see what I think of them.
