Im a serious filmmaker, and im going to college for film at NYU. I want to buy a MiniDV cam for some films im producing this summer. Anyone out there with knowledge in this area, your imput would be greatly appreciated, what cam should i get...ive narrowed it down to either the Canon XL1s, or the GL2...if you have any others which might be good let me know, the price range is under 4K. thanks- skip

Panasonic DVX1000. It's supposed to look almost like real film. I'm just going by what I've read on here though. I don't know if it's in your price range either.

ya if your going to film school get the panosonic dvx1000a or the xl1s. you will like the panosonic because you will be able to shoot 24 frames a second exactly like film and you would like the canon becuase you can use many diffent lens (even arriflex 16mm lens with an adapter) and there are many other film like accesorys that can be attached to the camera.
