New Boots Hurt Like Hell

So I searchbarred already and yes, I did have these boots boot-fitted at a shop already.

So I went out on Saturday to get some runs in and it being the first day of the season or whatever, anyway; my new boots (Dalbello Voodoo) just killed my calves. Tried adjusting the buckles to be tighter down low, and looser up top. I also tried maneuvering the tongue around to see if it would help....nope nothin.

It pinches or twists my calf muscle on my left leg. Oddly enough I didnt seem to have a problem on my right leg at all. I mean other than them being new and have to be broken in anyway.

So what I'm asking is, anything I can do other than suck it up and deal with the pain for a while? I haven't gotten new boots in a while, but I can't ever remember having this much of a problem before. Let alone just on one leg anyway.

I had the same issue this weekend. I strapped on my 2nd ever pair of new boots (Dalbello Raves) and they definitely gave me some pressure and pain. But I sucked it up and strapped back into them for a second consecutive day and by the end of the day they started to break in a bit and feel really snug and responsive. Just give it some time to work itself out and suck it up, i didn't remember my old boots hurting either but every boot is different.

wrong.
sounds like a simple heel lift might suffice.
go back to the shop and talk to them about it, ask about a heel lift. this will take ~2.5 minutes to do and should fix any pinching.
it could be your legs are not used to 1. being in ski boots and 2. being in these new boots, as they need to be broken in.
ski them a few more times and see if the pain lessens/goes away. then post back in this thread/go to the shop.
hope that helps!

Thanks Man, I'll see what they can do. +K to you.

I'm now entering my 20th season on snow, so I dont think it's my legs not being used to it...haha

Once the pain from my leg wears down I'll see about getting that done so I can get an accurate feel for how they fit and should fit. And so its not just rubbing the area affected again.

Super true. A 1/4" heel lift will help get your calf up and out of the boot just enough to lessen the pain. I would also look into a good footbed, if you already don't have one. If you don't have one, as your foot collapses and falls in, so does your leg shaft/calf. If your calf isn't sitting correctly in the upper cuff/liner, your problems can be related to that as well. I preach footbeds a lot on here, but more times than not they help out a ton.

yes i forgot about that, footbeds are super important.
and to the original poster, i didnt mean your legs arent used to the boots in terms of being new to the sport, i simply meant that walking around in sneakers/sandels all summer usually causes slight to moderate discomfort the few first times being in a ski boot for an extended period of time because your calf isnt used to being in a rigid shell.
