hey just throwin a thread up here. me and annie (purplejumpsuit) are both gonna be starting the ski resort ops program at selkirk this upcoming fall (2010)

we'd like to see who else is getting into the program and what your housing arrangements are like. were both brainstorming what we wanna do for living, and we thought it would be rad to have a house of a few ppl (anywhere from 3-6, or even more) that are gonna be doing the ski ops program. we could all help eachother with homework, ski together and just be chill. plus it would make it a lot easier to cut a better deal with the landlord since we would all be locked in a 2 year lease (unless someone dropped out of the program) and cheaper is always better.

so if your in the ski ops program, or just gonna be going to selkirk or in nelson post here or pm me or annie(purplejumpsuit) and we can get a sick ski house going up in nelson!

do it man. its sick.

even if your not into living in our ski house post here anyways if your gonna be going into ski ops ext fall so we can get to know ya a little.

I was going to do it this year but that fell through.

I do plan on getting into that program for next fall like you guys. 100% down to split on a house.

sick! so stoked. got 3 maybe 4 if mitch wants to get in with us. we got a good house going so far.

I think i will be going there next september, or whenever it starts. Or i might do another season at the hill. Un decided

Selkirk College is doing some big expansion. Making dorms on the nelson campus. Dunno if they'll be going for next september. maybe the one after that, but that would be your cheapest way to go.

dorms? really?

i didnt know community colleges did dorms. either way a ski house would be so much more baller. haha

You know who ran down the dorms at 10th street? The sroamies. It was apparently just a constant party at the dorms when they were open.

and if you guys have any questions about the program, feel free to ask me. I am currently completing my work term at Whitewater, just cause I love Nelson way to much to leave. You'll see what I mean once you come.

For those of you that are going into it fo sho, welcome to the gongshow.

bump to the top

who else is in ski reasort ops currently, has been, or is going to be?

so far it looks like we got a 3 person house maybe 4. the more the cheaper the rent!(and the merrier haha)

right now i'm in my second semester at selkirk and its sweet the first semester kicked my ass but this semester has been sick we just finished our avalanche course that we took for free and we went up cat skiing and took about 5 runs and had lots of fun in the process. the fall field trip was sweet we have a young class so when we headed to alberta it was way fun since they could come to the bars with us. we have our other field trip coming up in march its gonna be super sick already since we are going to be skiing in the afternoons.

See you guys next September. Nelson is a great place and the program is alot of fun. Any questions also feel free to hit me up. Also, if you are 19 it could be fun to come to Nelson in August to check the town out as well as maybe drop by Shambhala. That was my intro to the Kootenays and it was way too much fun.

Just thought I would add that if you are not 19, you are going to miss out on some fun. Just think about that ... taking a year or two off isnt all that bad. I did it, just got to ski a shit load. Not a bad time.

i did the Ski resort operations course at georgain college in barrie ontario pritty much the same course but your not in the mountains

haha canada is so awesome. i always hear shit like you just said, but in the US its always "the kids under 21 dont have as much fun" so i always get copped out.

Yah. Well like, Nelson is a really cool town with alot of cool shit going on very often. Seriously consider going to Shambhala, its the tits.

I just finished up a bunch of my application stuff, im in as long as I graduate and pay the fee's now. really looking forward to this program.

I never thought about that over 19 thing.. but ill only be 18 for the first four months, so im not to worried becuase id like to get used to the program/nelson for a bit before being drunk all the time anyways.

housing is up in the air for me right now... not sure what happened to the plans I had going, now I have one friend that is strongly thinking of moving with me, and id be interested to know if anyone else is looking for roommates.

i'm from the states and in the program for next fall. stoked

and there still are a few spots left, but not many. thats as told to me by one of the counselers at selkirk today.

if you still wanna do it you can do the hotel hospitality degree for the first year, then switch to the ski resort ops for second year. its an alternative way if the ski resort ops program fills up.

then be prepared for the time of your life cause i cam from idaho and came up to the program and it was insane i was no expecting half the shit that went on but it was way worth it. what will you be doing for housing?

they usually take right around 30 people i think we made 30 people barely a few people can't handle the program and end up dropping out we ended up with 25 or something like that

I'll be just down to road in Castlegar come September. Doing the whole pilot thing but I'm always down for some runs. Don't know which mountain will be my home yet since from what I can tell both Red and Whitewater are damn near the same distance away.

i'm working till the day i leave in late august, so no early for me either. i'm prolly moving up the last saturday in august

Ill be there! Annie actually told me about the program, been in touch and looking for a house still. Man, finding a place there is a pain in the ass....

dope dude, ya i have been looking for people to share a house with. anyone who would be down to share a house post up here or pm me. i'm still looking for housing too. would much rather get 3-5 ppl to split rent in a house, rather than rent a room from an old hippy in their house.

Im so pumped to go to this school it sounds like from this forum that there is a shit load of NS'ers in nelson at the school. ill be working there next year and going to the school the year after, cause im in gr11 now. i will need roommates for that year as well. And im gonna head down there this winter to check out whitewater and ski the pow there.
