He is a fucking boss. I am reading his book Space Chronicles and it is a really good read if your'e into space exploration, science, and the advancement of the human species.

I love the videos posted above too.

hah, I watched a video in bio today with this guy in it. Seemed super annoying in the video in class.

Hello reddit. Ed Whitten, and clearly and utterly superior eclipsing scientific mind is forgotten, while this fad astrophysicist with no significant discoveries to his name is celebrated. I don't understand it.

Hmmmm? I have no idea - I've never heard of Survivorman, but do you mean that Survivorman is real and relatively obscure, while the clearly staged Man v. Wild is more popular?

Yeah, it's all about the entertainment value. In comparison, would you believe that Stephen Hawking was as known outside the scientific world if he wasn't that "dude in the wheelchair with the robot voice?"

maybe because he is a teacher, he relates all of this shit to the normal everyday American at the Hayden planetarium- whereas Whitten does extremely complicated string theory that no average person is going to have a fucking clue about

no one said that Tyson is the smartest guy in the world- just that he is funny, can relate to the average joe and has an ability to speak well.

and to anyone who is saying shit about reddit blow me Ive never even been on that site- NS is enough bullshit for me

Bump. NDT can relate extremely difficult to understand subjects to a completely clueless person and make it enjoyable to listen to. Most other scientists/extremely smart people can't bridge the gap.

he's inspiring thinkers of tomorrow... don't be so quick to bash him saying he's taking credit that isn't his. otherwise, leave technological advancement to people who don't know what they are doing and simply "want" it because technology has always advanced. people take technology for granted... it has to come from somewhere and from someone.
