Need to upgrade from a D700

Hey All - finally accepting that I need to buy a new camera (love my Full Frame D700...but it's time for a new camera for so many reasons) - figured i'd poll the combined wisdom of the NS photography community for suggestions. I've been out of the camera game for a while, as you can tell by my old hardware.

Seems like mirrorless is the name of the game - Sony and Pana/Lumix appear popular, either one recommended over the other?

I'll shoot a little of everything, Action / Product / Portrait

Anyone still shooting Nikon?

Appreciate the help - Cheers!

I'm still using my D800 and I love it. I have ridiculously sized hands and I actually appreciate the larger body of the camera because the controls are more ergonomic for me.

If you are happy to use a full size DSLR, you can find a lightly used one for a steal due to the prevalence of mirrorless cameras these days, and of course if you have expensive glass from your D700 it will all work without adapters on a newer Nikon.

That being said, the mirrorless world is so much lighter and more compact with every up to date bell and whistle.

My friends who use Fuji love them.

Swapped over to mirrorless a year ago and I definitely haven't looked back! I shoot on an r5 (first full frame body after like 8 years) and it feels like an absolute endgame camera to me. Image quality is ridiculous, autofocus is near foolproof (if you're into that kind of thing), and it feels like it has half the form factor of my 7dmkii.

I've messed around with Sony and Panasonic a bunch and they're both great. Image quality is a little too model specific to compare, but I personally would lean towards Panasonic because I like the interface/body design more and Sony lenses are pricey as all hell.

Appreciate both the replies to this - been doing a bunch of research and while the D750 (over a D800/810, and used ones are reasonable) seems like a worthy upgrade, hard to deny the advantages of Mirrorless...

I still shoot Nikon dslr. I wouldn’t switch to mirrorless unless you want to do a lot of video or don’t have much investment in glass. I would look at a used/refurbished d850 if you can. Maybe a 750 if that’s a little pricey for what you want to do. Nikon dslr bodies and glass are insanely cheap right now, I picked up a d5 and a 300 2.8 last year barely used for about the cost of one new flagship pro body

I would go 750 over either the 800 or 810. stay away from the 800 or at least make sure the shutter oil recall issue was fixed if you do go for one

Ive been using a D610 for 9 years now. Still love it, but Id really love a D780 for the impressive AF, low light capabilities, and really just, more uprated feel in a similar package.

I have a large investment in F-mount and I don't really shoot video so much anymore - so going mirrorless doesn't make sense. Also, the Nikon DSLRs have just such good AF... and the 780 is as good as it gets right now.

The D6 and D850 are mighty impressive, but I dont need 14/s burst mode, and I don't need 45mp for those massive files. If I was specifically more into sports or studio, then perhaps I'd bump to one of those two, but the 750 and 780 just sorta hit right in the middle.

They have great resolution and low light capabilities with a completely great burst mode and AF, and theyre lighter and have a lot of the same features being thrown into the Z mirrorless cameras.

Hey Sean! Long time man, hope you are well. Thanks for the information!
