Need to know (steel tubes)

Yoo whats up everyone. Im just wondering every time I hit a steel tube, how these things are made? Anyone got any plans on it?

Lift tower tubes generally or could be from oil, snowmaking anything snowmaking ones generally won't get too big.

They're welded. Think some are rolled and have one straight seam. Some lift tower have a spiral weld going up. Those kinda sound like pool coping when you slide them.

Idk i don't really know a ton about large pipes, or lifts honestly.

At my hill we buy them from coastal jibs because we don’t have anyone who knows how to weld in the parks. We have a bunch of smaller tubes like 12-16inch which I’d assume are from snowmaking or maybe even pretty old lift towers. And a bunch of 4-6inch tubes which I’d assume is from snowmaking. We had all those build back when Pat Morgan and Chris perks worked at HV

coastal jibs is really expensive, I feel like you could make a nice wide tube (12-16 in) for a lot less just with the cost of materials and then weld it up yourself right? Correct me if I'm wrong but my mountain really needs a tube like this

Yeah well it’s cheaper than the mtn hiring someone who’s knows what their doing. They slide weird tbh. All their rails are either insanely slick or insanely sticky

Making one without the proper equipment (ie a sheet metal roller) would be a total pain. For the long tubes like on lift tower I think they're rolled in a spiral since a long enough roller would be impractical, so instead the sheet metal is rolled at an angle through the roller.

Your best bet is definitely finding an appropriate tube at a salvage yard or something like that.

I bet. I was looking through their instagram and some of their rails have a matte black surface which I cant imagine slides well but I've slid their other rails skiing in quebec and mostly they seem okay.

I find their boxes get really sticky when it’s warm especially the metal on them. The tanks are pretty good unless it’s warm and in direct sunlight. And their flat bars slide fine it’s just a little weird the texture
