A few were very interesting and had a lot of energy. Some of them seemed very run-of-the-mill, though, so I would say only put your very best photos online, try to pare down your selection even more. You seem to let your subject make the picture, which can work sometimes, but I think you should try expirimenting more with different compositions (I liked the one where you turned the camera on an angle in the trees, so that the fallen tree appears on a horizontal axis) and really look at your subjects in relation to the things around them to try and get some more creative shots. The close-up of the guy playing the drum with his hair flying is good, and I really like the one where the guy's back is turned with the coffee cup resting on a granite post in the foreground. The one with the coloured boxes was interesting, but you seemed to have let the subject "take control". The kind of abstract ones with the different clours are interesting to look at too.

ok im going to be honest. taking a picture from the back seat of a car with a slow shutter speed. seriously?
all those pictures i just feel like you see it, you just snap it. you gotta notice even just the simple aspects of photo, from perspective to contrast and space.
not to hate but the only way youd get better is if you get an honest answer.
just take your time when shooting and notice detail.

Jake's real new at this, so don't burn him too bad but be sure to give tips. That'll help.

yeah i didnt mean to sound like an asshole, i just thought maybe cus you made a website youve been at it for a while. just think space and detail. and look at other photography

oh yea man no offense taken, im really new at it so i wanted some criticism, i understand wat u mean by having my subjects "control" the photo's but i guess im not sure how to go about learing how to play with the composition and stuff, could you be mre specific? thanks i apreciate it

by expirimenting with the composition, I mean you should move around with the camera and see what the picture will look like from all different angles, even if it's just moving over a few inches. Don't think of the picture as being of something, if you know what I mean, just simplify it into basic shapes in your mind and see what the shapes look like in relation to each other from different places. If you google "Gestalt" you may find some interesting concepts you can use in your photographs. As i said before, i liked the one where you turned the camera a little bit to make the fallen tree appear horizontal, while all the standing trees were a little sideways. I had to look at it for a minute before I realized the horizontal tree in the middle would have been on the same angle as the other trees are if you hadn't turned the camera to make that particular one appear horizontal. That is a basic example of what i mean by playing with the composition.

so it's not an "effect" pursay, like a different shutter speed or a blurred background, but differences in angle and subject placement?

exactly, just the way the different elements of the picture look together. That is what composition is: what the picture is composed of. Of course camera settings are important too and it can be cool to play around with those too for different effects, which i'm sure you know already.

yeah basically knowing how to use space and put the different elements and shapes together. like if your shooting a subject, dont center the object, maybe put it to the side of the shot. think diagnols and depth
