Do you have a local destination marketing organization (DMO)? Or convention and visitors bureau? Your background could possibly be used at one of those. I work at one and it's really fun. It's the real life travel and tourism industry. It think they're all typically non-profits though, which you made it sounds like that's an issue. I don't know why it would be.
Just go apply for jobs at the places that you want to work even if it is just filing papers or something totally unrelated to your degree. A lot of places just use their interns to do the same sort of mindless stuff so better to get paid and it is really all about the connections.
Depends on where you want to go in life, I'd think of an internship as a first step towards the job you want. I have no idea what you want to do so I can't speak to it other than that
