Alright, I honestly have no idea where to start on this one, so Im coming to you guys.

I have an image that I want to being into illustrator and somehow just create an outlined image of. Thing is the image is smaller, and I will need to upsize it with out it getting pixelated, so Ill need to use vector lines I suppose?

Basically I want to go from this

to this

im not the best but im pretty sure you can just vectorize it with the pen tool and then make it bigger without losing quality

yeah if you just want an outline of the image like you posted then you have to use the pen tool and outline it. its a bitch to use at first but once you get used to it you can go through something like that no problem. i would do it for you because i got some spare time but my computer crashed a while ago and i dont have photoshop or illustrator anymore. but there are some good tutorials on deviantart i think.

ok thanks man, I figured thats what I would have to do but I didnt really want to..

and just an fyi, thats not the image I need outlined, so no one please spend time on it!

thanks for the offer though! +k if your not at 10/10

Pretty much what Malcolm said:
First, open the pic in illustrator, then make a different layer so the original photo and your outline is on two different layers. Grab the pen tool, (assuming you already know how to use one?) and start tracing. That's all there is to it, its boring and time consuming but if you do it right it'll look great.
Good luck!

or you can do it slightly old fashion by tracing it on paper and scanning in the line drawing. there is also a neat tool that will vectorize anything you throw at it. check it out in AI2-4

Depending upon what version of illustrator you have you could do Live Trace, it's kinda like vectoring it by hand with the pen tool. It probably won't be as good, and may just flat out not work for what you need, but it's worth a try.

here's how i would do it.

open the photo in photoshop

1.jpg

Then go to Image>Image Size, and bump that thing up to 300 dpi. never ever ever do this if except to pen tool something.

2.jpg

Save it as a jpeg, then you're done with photoshop

3.jpg

Bring the jpeg into illustrator, create a new layer for the trace, and get to work.

4.jpg

Keep tracing

5.jpg

It's nice to have the trace on a separate layer so you can check your progress without deleting the photo

6.jpg

Keep tracing

7.jpg

the more you do this, the quicker it will go

your eyes are probably ready to bleed from staring at the screen so long, but at long last you have your elephant

9.jpg

i could give you my file, but then your would never learn. so do it yourself you damn freeloader

haha, fuck me. i just read that this isn't the image you need traced. oh well, at least i got more practice doing something time consuming and tedious.

SORRY MAN! ha I should of made that clear in the OG post but didnt think that anyone would even do that for me..

but thanks for the help and anyone who reads this thread give this man some karma for taking his time to help me!
