Need help!

alright so my math teacher gave us this problem and the first person to get it gets some extra credit

so its kinda hard to explain but a guy has a chain with 7 links and has a saw but can only cut one once, but you need to get them all apart, you cant stack them up and cut a few, you cant break them apart, and you can cut more than one

anyone know? or have heard of this?

if u have any questions about it just ask

its pretty long...

but this guy walks into a hotel but someone robbed his wallet and all of his money, all he has is a golden chain and the hotel manager says he will just take his chain, the guy doesnt trust him so he wants to give him a link a day for the week, he has a saw that will cut the chain, but the saw will only do one cut at the exact width of the chain, how can he make only one cut and get each chain link off?

i think its not possible but idk haha

This is a pretty common math question. You worded it incorrectly, but here is the answer:

Cut the third link.

Then he would have three pieces of the chain - pieces of 1, 2 and 4 links.

On the first day he gives 1 link to the manager.

On the second day he gives 2 links and gets 1 link back - manager has now 2 links for 2 days.

On the third day he gives 1 link - manager has 3 links.

On the fourth day he gives 4 links and gets 3 links back - manager has 4 links.

On the fifth day he gives 1 link.

On the sixth day he gives 2 links and gets 1 link back - manager has 6 links.

On the seventh day he gives 1 link
